Do you like it dry or prefer some lube?

Sorry, I couldnt resist the title.

On my sm465/np205 that I just put together. I greased the coupling between them. After doing this I wondered if that was a good or a bad Idea? I know that the adaptor area is "dry" so I figured some lube might not hurt. But any wear and metal shavings would stay right on the shafts and potentially wear more.

Before I put them back in the truck, should I pull them back apart and remove the grease or will it not be a problem?

I always grease them up. Keeps them quiet, and somewhat prevents rusting
