Small Block is a tight fit???

I have plenty of room on the sides, but the front of the engine is a very tight fit. Had to make custom hoses for PS, AC, radiator, etc. This is an LT1 with a 94 Z28 radiator, condesing coils, fans and serpentine setup. Now that all this is done, it's back to blasting and painting.

Have you tried moving it back to the I6 mounts. I have heard of people doing this to get more room in the front, little tight at the distributor, and it helps weight ratio.

I hadn't thought of that...but too late now. It doesn't have a rear distributor, so that wouldn't be a problem.

Ive got my small block on big block mounts. Different engine than yours I know but I have plenty of forward room. In fact I had to use a long water pump and a 2 inch spacer to get the fan in the big block shroud.

Yea I'd say thats a tight fit. Hope you can get to the belt tensioner.

Yea, thats a little tight.....but what the hell its in there! Did you have a tough time finding the Z28 rad/fans?

It's easy to get to the belt tensioner...all you have to do is take out the radiator! Actually, you would have to slide the fans up and out to get to it. Most of the stuff is off a 94 z28, except the engine itself, which is the 95 and up variety. The serpentine system is off of the 94.

I would try to move the ac condencer to the outside of the radiator suport with costom brackets.

In hindsight, I would have moved the engine back a couple of inches.

Dude, don't sweat it, you're there. That's SUCH a nice motor. I have a buddy with a body shop in Shreveport if it would be of any help. Very nice conversion. Be sure and get us track times and MPG after it's all said and done. Be sure and check out www.camaroz28.com
There you can learn more that you ever wanted to know about the LT1. You'll hate the Opti-puke and manifold leaks but you will LOVE the torque curve and revviness. Not as revvy as an LS1 but I LOOVED mine in the 6spd Z I had. I miss that car . . . .
