292 6cyl parts interchangeable?
I found a guy parting out a 1975 pickup with a 292 6 cyl. The motor is complete and not disassembled. I am in need of an exhaust manifold and cylinder head. Will these fit OK on my 1969 292? I do not think these motors changed much from 69 to 75 but I am not sure.
I will be able to inspect the exhaust manifold for cracks before buying. What problems do I need to look out for on the cylinder head before committing to purchase? |

Re: 292 6cyl parts interchangeable?
Somebody else can chime in, but I believe they are interchangeable.
The only concern is that I believe that one has the integrated head/intake manifold on it. If at all possible, you want to stay away from those. Seems like most machine shops don't want to mess with them at all because they tended to crack. |

Re: 292 6cyl parts interchangeable?
Yes, they'll fit just fine however IIRC the 292 exhaust had 3 bolts instead of 2 where the exhaust manifold meets the pipe. Not a big deal to change if needed but something to be aware of.

Snag the HEI also if you don't have one.It makes a world of difference in driveability.

Even if it had the integral manifold/head, you can ditch it and bolt on a pre-'74 head, to which you can bolt on all the goodies: Offy intake, 4Bbl carb and headers. The lower rotating assemblies are the same.

If it has a rodchester mono jet with the heat riser and not a manual choke I'd be interested in getting that

Re: 292 6cyl parts interchangeable?
I am going back today to look at more closely and note the details. I am not sure I have seen an integrated head/manifold? This is different from the bolt together intake/exhaust, correct? I am probably going grab a bunch of items if seller is willing to deal. The real find on this is a complete power steering set up - brackets, pump, gear, pulley.

Re: 292 6cyl parts interchangeable?
I Have been wanting to add power steering to my 67 292 but have not seen any of the brackets and how it mounts. If you pick up this engine can you post some pics of the PS mounting and brackets? Thanks and good luck on the find!

The integeral head 292 PS brackets are different from the 292 non-integeral head ones.I think you can mod them to work but I don't remember how.In fact I think someone posted a pic of a set of the modded ones a few days ago.I don't remember the thread tho.
