stupidity has cost me money
So today I was loading stuff into the back of my 84 and i only put one chain on the tail gate. For some reason I decided to stand on the tailgat to get out of the bed. Well needless to say one chain didn`t hold my weight and it ripped the whole side out of the tailgate. I was able to bend it back some and then used ratchet straps to get it back in place so I could close it. I`ll have to weld it up when I go back to work next week. The only good thing about it was the tailgate needed to be replaced anyway and stepside gates are pretty easy to find around here. Just though I would share my stupid moment.

Re: stupidity has cost me money
lol, mine is bent so it doesnt like to lower all the way, and when i was moving I was loading a bed. Without thinking i walked right out onto the gate and it fell dropping me on my butt. thats my tailgate story lol, not quite as dramatic

Re: stupidity has cost me money
Well it`s pretty similar to my story, lol. I`m a little mad though because the truck is pretty clean and now I`ve gto a ratchet strap across the top of the gate holding everything together. The strap is white too so it blends in but still. I`m hoping I can make it look close to what it did. I was going to get a smooth one eventually anyway.

Re: stupidity has cost me money
I had a ratchet strap holding the fenders on my step box. They had rusted away the entire length on top. I hit a large bump one day and it fell over and started rubbing the tire, hanging out into the other lane, and creating a nuisance.
Ratchet straps are fun, affordable, and capable of so many tasks! Ya know GM trucks since the 40s or 50s up to the 80s use the same tailgate for a step box? |

Re: stupidity has cost me money
stepside gates practicaly fall from tres around here so finding one shouldn`t be a problem. I would just buy the new smooth one I wanted but I`m still thinking of swapping to a fleet bed so I`m noit sure I want to spend the money on a new gate.
