Re: finaly firing motor

What are the details on the engine? Did you assemble it? Ive been wanting to put one together as I have only done it from short-block up.

Nice to see those motor mounts also. I have a set from an 88 'burb that I was going to use. How did you mount the bottom? Drill and bolt?

You should ALWAYS fire up the engine with only headers just to let the neighbors know your making progress!!!

Re: finaly firing motor

the motor is pretty much stock tore it down and checked all the bearings and the rings looked good still had hone marks in the block,i changed the cam lifters and push rods put all new gaskets in and painted. i changed the headers since they were hitting the frame and am running a q jet carb for now. here are some pics from today and yes it is good to let the neibors know you are making progress lol

Re: finaly firing motor

Nice job, thanx for the info. You also have a *****in' GMC hood which I cant seem to find for my truck.

What did you look for on your bearings when you tore it down? Did you need any special tools for the rebuild? I know one would need a ring compressor to re-ring, but other than that??? I know what THRASHED parts look like but dont have experience making judgment on whats good. I sold a 396 for my 'burb and wish I kept it now...there are tons of big block parts out floating around and I would like to do a budget rebuild.

Keep it up, lookin good. That will be a stout ride w/ the 3/4 ton parts.

Re: finaly firing motor

motor ran great after i replaced the fuel pump and rotated the distributor 180 degrees. when i looked at the bearings look for any grooves or if the bearing is losing the silver color turning to a bronzeish color. besides the ring compressor all you need that is special is a good torque wrench.thanks for the complaments guys. we also installed the bed today too.

Cool Re: finaly firing motor

mnky 30, and i have been working hard to get his 60 chevy togeather i gave him awhile ago. Look at the progress we've made on his pics. It sounds great i've given him a few parts, like the cam and the new headers and a few other parts to try and keep the build as cheap as we can.So that he has money for other parts. I wanna see it on the road. i don't own a old chevy. but i love chevys. I do own a 34 ford pickup my dad gave me a month before he pass away. so i will be working on that soon.
