th700r4

Is it possible to use a th400 tailhousing on a 700r4 tranny? I can get hold of a cheap 700, but it is a 4wd unit and I have a 400 just laying around.

If you want to apply an original 700r4 from a 4x4 to a 2wd truck, you need to swap out the output shaft. Most guys go the other way - adapt a 2wd case to work with a 4x4.

I know a company named Advanced Adapters makes an output shaft that works with 4x4s. Perhaps you could get on the google, find their website, and see if they make the 2wd output shafts too. Then you'll need the tailhousing as 4x4 trannies don't have one.

Re: th700r4

I would guess that a local trans shop would be glad to swap you a 2wd shaft and housing for your 4wd parts. The 4x4 parts are more in demand. Or just buy what you need and sell the 4x4 parts here or on EBAY , Craigs List

Re: th700r4

I bought a 700R4 used and when I got it home found out that some idiot had chopped off the output shaft (4wd) and swapped out the tail housing for a 2wd. Very crappy, do it right and get the output shaft swapped by a builder.
