Bottom windshield rust, how hard to repair
Looking at a 79 swb 4x4 with some serious rust repair needed at the bottom of the windshield (under hood). Can anyone tell me how difficult of a repair job is for this area? I know it's very hard to tell without pics but just trying to get an idea if the truck is worth buying.
Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Bottom windshield rust, how hard to repair
Pic is worth 1000 words, LOL. Just got done with mine. I'm no expert but it worked and you can't see it. Our trucks have 3 areas up there that develope problems, under the hood on the firewall, under the cowl where the wiper linkage is and at the very bottom of the windshield where the gasket for the glass is mounted. Get some pics up so we can see and figure a way to fix it.

Scott in most cases the truck is complete junk unless you want to swap cabs.. its very hard to fix that area so it doesnt leak

i wouldn't say you'd have to swap cabs just to fix the rust spot. if you take your time you could cut out a panel from a donor truck to fix the rust... thats what i'd do over swaping cabs but thats my 2 cents

Re: Bottom windshield rust, how hard to repair
My lower windshield flange was rotted out and the upper flange had holes in it. What I did was rebuild both flanges with fiberglass. It wasn't easy by any means, but when I got done it was flat and smooth and the new windshield gasket fit was very good. I don't have any leaks either. With the materials available to us today we can danm near fix anything.jim
