is it just me or are you tired of people selling radios who "have no idea if it works or not"? i mean really, how hard is it to test a radio? a speaker, and 12 volt battery, and something to stick in the antenna wire. grr! im just venting a bit here, but i really hate this kind of crap. if you have something to sell, do it properly and honorably. If you really don’t have a way to take photos or don’t know how (I don’t believe this one for a second) then ask a friend for help you MUST have photos to sell anything! Put a set price on your item! No one likes the “make an offer” bs. if i was a betting man, the guy in this ebay auction is scamming. he KNOWS they don’t work. he has a 0 feed back, and has a few other radios for sale. im betting he DID test them, and instead of selling them as a non-working radio and getting a lower price; he does the "i don’t know" bs and hopes for a sucker. Grrr I don’t know how people who screw people intentionally sleep at night. rant over

Re: ebay radio, i wouldnt...
the radios out of our trucks use a 10 ohm speaker that is very uncommon, and to hook up a 8 or 4 ohm speaker it may dammage the radio. im not defending the people that sell junk on ebay but i do understand why they are sold untested. and why people pay $300 for a radio that is untested is a mystery to me.

Re: ebay radio, i wouldnt...
If he was screwing people intentionally he would state that the radio was fully tested and worked, even though he knew it didn't work. In this case he doesn't know if it works, so he states that.

Re: ebay radio, i wouldnt...
Just bid accordingly. Bid like it is a non-working unit...

Re: ebay radio, i wouldnt...
I think it's a half scam.. ie if someone gambles that it works and pays too much, the owner has an out to say "hey I never checked it". Still, the discription it gives the illusion that it may work

Re: ebay radio, i wouldnt...
What a timely post. I bought an original truck am/fm out of a '72 Cheyenne Super on ebay a few months back from a reputable seller, and just today took it over to a friend of mine who repairs electronics and old radios to see what I had. After hooking up power, speaker ( 8 or 10 ohm btw according to the factory tag...8 in our case), and antenna, it worked great! The light bulb was dead, so my buddy reached way back in his stash of old parts and pulled out an NOS bulb. The AM/FM dial cord was broken, so of course he had some NOS cord on hand to repair it. He's going to basically restore the whole radio to as new condition...for free! I'll put up some pics when he's done. Casey

Re: ebay radio, i wouldnt...
Who wouldn`t have a way to test a radio?12v,antennea,and a speaker. It`s honest to sate condition unknown, but is that because they`d chance getting less if they did test it and found it didn`t work? It`s just too simple to test. And,bid accordingly? These guys that pay as much as $300 for them kills that. They aren`t really that rare.

Re: ebay radio, i wouldnt...
To test it a guy would have to know where to plug in the pos, neg, and speaker wires or risk frying it during the testing process.
If the guy had an original plug to plug into the back of it, it would be easy enough, but without the plug it's a gamble on his part. Besides, anybody that pays 100+ bucks for a stock radio deserves to take the gamble. That is ignorant. A radio serves one purpose and one purpose only. That's to listen to. Take the 150 bucks and go buy a decent radio.....sheesh

Perhaps im a bit more risky when it comes to electronics, but I have a hard time believing that you would blow the radio up by trying to test it. A little work with a ohms meter should make it clear on what terminal is what. To me selling a radio with out testing it is just lazy. Its in the same line as people selling things with out photos, or with vague and incomplete descriptions. These are usually the folks who get mad and upset with you when you ask for more information. Now that is ignorant.

Re: ebay radio, i wouldnt...
if i may ,i am a gambling man, i also do not agree that guys are ignorant to buy a untested radio! if you can buy if for 100-150 bucks .and get it fixed if it needs to be for 150.and then turn it for a 200-300 dollar profit.sounds like a pretty good idea to me ,and if does work and most of the ones i have bought have, well now that's smarts!

As far as guys paying big money for "original" stuff, that's up to them, but it does tend to piss me off when they drive the prices to the moon on some things I'd like to have just to complete my truck. My truck wasn't purchased to be a show truck or a project truck. My granddad bought it because he needed a 4x4 truck. I ran it to death when I was younger and now, (someday), I'd like to build it into a nice truck and maybe pass it down to my son. It'll never be a show truck. I've got no use for those myself, although I do like to look at 'em. Appearance over quality is ignorant IMHO. I do agree the guy sellin the radio should test it. But look at it from his point of view. If he trys to test it and ends up frying it, he probably just screwed himself out of a hundred bucks or so.
