Well out of the tires I have seen that are in my price range Im very happy you guys replied to this post. I dont know what tires I will choose. I would like to buy a few sets and rotate them all around Ill have to think on this one some more.

Ohh yeah dont worry, I dont think Ill ever buy a set of BFG's. You guys seem to hate them!

i like the bfg radial t/a's alot, they are one of the best options in the market for this type of tire application. thats what i'm running now and the tread ware is the same as any other 400 treadware tire. my toe is way off on the front causing my front tires to ware fast, but thats my fault. i would definatly run another set of bfg's. the only reson i mentioned the yoko's is because you were wanting more of an performance looking tread.

OK guys Im confused now after visiting that Miata site.
Which of these will fit my 15x8 wheels and be of close overall tire size (height & width)

I'm not sure what you are after. If you are wanting a lower profile, it will, in my opinion look weird with 15" wheels. Then it's going to change the total height, speedo, etc. Are you wanting to keep it in the 28 or 29 inch range?

Personally, with 15" rims, I would go with 60 series sidewalls. The above link will help you decide, I'm sure.

As a side note, BF Goodwrich was giving away Gtech's with a set of tires at one time. I would have probably bought a set if I hadn't already bought a Gtech.

Speaking of Gtech. Has anyone seen the new ones they have come out with? Nice.

none of these will fit on your wheels. most of these more 'top end' companys dont make much thats applicable to your size, they make mostly sizes for high end larger diameter wheels. all of there 15's are gonna be for like 15x6.5 honda wheels and stuff for ricers. like the 205's you listed are common for a 6 inch wide or so wheel. the ones they make that are wide enough for your wheels are gonna be in 17 and up diameter.

the big companys are what is gonna have the sizes you need. like bfg, firestone, ect.

i wouldn't put anything skinnier than a 275 on a 10 inch wide wheel. if you haven't figured out the break down yet, the first number in the tire code is the width in milimeters, the second number is the aspect ratio which is the height of the side wall measured in percent of the width, and the last numder is the rim diameter.

so a 275/60/15 is 275 milimeters wide, the side wall height is 60% of 257 milimeters and its for a 15 inch rim.

Thats what I thought about the tire size, but if you go to the Miata site shown and change just the width, it also changes the height. Also try playing around with the other site:

Ohh well I guess Ill probly stick with these pacemarks, I can get them for $90 something a piece and they are good tires, just not cool tread I plan to sell these wheels later and get some 16's or 17's. Wheels are just too damn expensive.

low 87 ---I go to pep boys and get 295/50s for like $85/ea.. They are FUTURA GLS SUPER SPORTS they get great traction,besides the occasional rubber I leave on the pavement, ! stripe right now though, sometimes two. Ive recently swithed to the 265/50s for $75/ea., to tuck em up in the fenders!!! The treadwear on the 265s are 440 , the traction "A", the temp. "C",had them on for a year and still got plent of rubber do burn!!!

Ive ran 295/50/15s on 10in. and 8 in. wheels, Ive also ran 265/50/15s on 10in and 8 in. wheels. Ive also ran 225/50/15s and 245/50/15s on 8in. wheels never had any problems. Like the way the 225/50/15s looked on my 8in. rallys on my 79 c-10, but felt more comfortable with at least 245/50s!! I wouldn't go lower than 225/50s though. Youcan also go 295/50/15s on 15in. x12. in.wide wheels. Talk about FAT TIRES!!!

Hey Eddie, Is your truck dropped? I would like to run 295's in back and 255's in front. My truck is undergoing a 4/6 drop and I am worried about tucking the tire. I plan to run 8 inch wheels.

The Kuhmo's are nice tires..wonder where Izzy got em/?? haha
Have great treadwear and awesome water capabilities. And they hook up good.

NIttos are awesome but way $$$$! i am running the NT 555's

For the budget minded the Kuhmos are hard to beat for a directional speed rated tire. The BFG's always wear out quick. If you want to hear the screaming and screeching of rubber on acceleration and second gear chirps the BFG's are the way to go. Non directional tires sqeal like dogs!! Directionals hardly make a sound at all.

just thought i would throw in my two cents worht about the avid st's. i been running a set of 295/50-15's on my 10" wide wheels for three years now, but prob only have 20k miles on them and they still look like they have plenty of tread and are in good shape. they seem to have excellent tire wear, or they do in my case anyway, but they don't get traction for crap, especially on wet pavement. you can forget that quick pullout in traffic when it's rainng. they have these two large grooves in the tread pattern which i figure helps to shed water to avoid hydroplaning. the groove to me just looks like that much less rubber for traction that is making contact with the pavement. i had a set of BF Goodrich radial ta's size 275/60/15's before that and the radial ta's got lots better traction on my truck than the yokohama's did. the comparison i'm making is when i had the tires on my 76 with the 383 stroker. the yoko's are now on my 84. they seem to be great tires but in my opinion don't hook up like the radial ta's. At the 1/8th mile drag after i put the yoko's i never ran as fast again as i did with the ta radial's. had lots more wheel spin off the line with the yokos, i couldn't get on the gas as hard with the yoko's as i could with the ta's when i left the line. the next time i buy tire's i think i will just get the ta radial's. iv'e always had pretty good luck out of them and they aren't too expensive.

I'm not saying the yokos are bad tires and not to buy them, i just dont' think they are good for traction as the ta radials, but for the price you can't beat them at all. my yoko's cost me $240 bucks for four 295/50's to my door three years ago and i will have to say i have definitely got my moneys worth out of them.

I agree with Dave on the Nitto's. They are a great tire. I also agree, they make no sound driving or spinning. I never thought about it being because they are directional. I wondered why they don't scream when spinning.

Just got new tires today. Kumho 712 ecsta 255/35/20 and 295/40/20. They were much cheaper than the BFGoodrich that I wanted and the tread is wicked. I hope they hook up a little better than my current Pep-Boys Futuras(suck). Not many choices when you get 20's.

those tires won't tuck on that drop. you will have about 1 inch of wheel gap with the 255 on the front and mabey around 1 inch with the 295's on the back too. i'm 5/7 and my front is just barely tucking the 255's on the front, and i'm running the 255's on the back too and they tuck like an inch. the 295's are about 1.5 inches shoter than the 255's. so my 'estimate' is you will have 1 inch of wheel gap all the way around

and eddie, i just remembered liek 6 month ago when i was working at discount we got 2 295/50's shipped in that were tight as hell. i've never seen tires in that size that look like them. i wanna say they were like pzeros or or mabey michiline pilot sports or something but i forget, i will try to find them on the net. they were nice though.

Thats cool, I just didnt want them to rub in the back. I think that to keep it level I will probably run 255's all around, but I was debating about a wider tire in back. Not that I will have the power to utilize it anyway

One thing I forgot to mention on BFG tires. They never get to their rated wear. They split and crack!! It's happened every time I used them on my other truck. Sure is scary when some points out - is that a wire sticking out on your tire?
