I scored today!!!!

Found a listing on CL in philly for a rebuilt 350 4 bolt main 300hp...$400. So I called the guy and come to find out, he's 5 miles down the road. So this morning I met him, did a once over on the motor, paid him and got it home. Started taking it apart and saw.....ARP bolts throughout the motor, Speed Pro forged pistons (.030 over), the crank was marked ".010 under", a cloyes double roller timing chain, roller rockers with center locks in the bolts, screw in studs, 1 piece moly pushrods, screens epoxied in oil holes, weiand intake and a melling hv oil pump. Cam doesn't have cam grind number on end but I'll check it out later. It's going in my 70 stepper and I can't wait. The guy didn't know what it was, he took it on in a trade deal about a year ago and never used it. The best $400 I've ever spent.......now to convince the wife it was HER xmas present to me...lol

Re: I scored today!!!!

Yes, it's true, I am new to the board. This was my first post but I have been reading for weeks about the stuff you guys talk about. So far, ALL you guys are alright in my book!! I bought my 70 stepper about 2 months ago on ebay for $1100 and it was an hour away. I'll post some pics when I get a chance. I'm not new to the old car/truck scene as my last one was a 66 chevelle 2 dr hardtop, frame off resomod by myself in my garage and ran a best 11.83 at the track. I am looking forward to many new friendships here on this site and if any of you live in the PA,DE,NJ,MD corner, I'll be happy to help out on your project as well.

Re: I scored today!!!!

dont you just love the feeling of opening up an unknown engine to find something more then you expected i bought the engine for my truck from a friends dad 100 bucks for a running 350( intake, distributer and waterpump not included) turned out to be a 383 stroker with keith black pistons, and a scat crank with a worn comp cam
you always get lucky when your least expecting it
and welcome to the board from midwestern mn

Re: I scored today!!!!

i strongly advise anyone running roller rockers w/a center set/locking screw to run a stud girdle! those set screws have a habbit of backing out and you wind up breaking a rocker roller and voilla needle brgs throught your loving motor...BIG UGLY!!! happened to a member/friend of mine.expensive to fix. thats the downside to roller rockers. a stud girdle locks it (big nut) in place. screens are an awsome idea too. just my 2 cents phipp

Re: I scored today!!!!

Not exactly what I was expecting when I opened the thread, but I guess if I had seen what I was expecting, the thread would have been deleted?

Anyway, congrats on the motor score!
