Re: Truck got hit
Man that sucks. I was given a heads up to edit my post because it might be considered parts for sale so thats what i did. I know that it is possible to find good used parts for cheap though and know there are a lot of parts trucks around my area. So if I were you I would not make her insurance pay. I would just make her pay for the cost of some used parts and maybe a little for the work it is going to take you to put them on.

Re: Truck got hit
I think from what you said, if I'm ever in Ok. again, I'll keep an eye out for 08 Silverado's LOL. Sorry about your truck, but looks like you've got some solid parts available out in that area.

Re: Truck got hit
she has had 30 accidents so far?! I dont think her insurance would go up. I think she would get dropped.
have patience, at least you can still drive it. if nothing else it will be a visual reminder for her to be more careful. |

I wouldn't feel sorry for her in the least... Don PS knock on wood, I have only had one accident in the 20+ years I have been driving that was my fault. 30 accidents even for someone who has been driving for decades, is way, way, way too many.

Re: Truck got hit
She sounds like she drives like my son does. Get in the car and never look around or in the mirrors. He backed into my 48 and bent the grill after he towed it home the night before and a year later backed in to the side of my Cadillac. How do you miss seeing a Coupe Deville in broad daylight?

Re: Truck got hit
its your sister man, -- you'll probably have to take this one on the chin for awhile and start cruising for sheetmetal.
The bigger salvage yards dont have anything that old, but if you cruise the backroads and find some of the small junkyards, you might get lucky. Or there's always Classic Chevy at 89th and I-35 (open your wallet wide there, but they are all top shelf parts)

Re: Truck got hit
On filing a claim....since the truck is an '08, and assuming she/your parents didn't pay cash for it, it should be insured. Liability at the least, right? With that in mind, YOU can file a claim against the carrier. If the truck belongs to your folks, all you gotta do is get them to be happy....but if the insurance is hers and hers alone, then she should be made to feel the pain. I understand when people don't want their relatives to file a claim against their insurance, but how else are you going to get your truck repair paid for?
Insurance is what we have to carry, in order to be able to drive on public rights of way. So what if she has to pay extra for a while? At least with the rates increased for her ability to drive, she'd be paying. As an aside, my younger brother once (okay, more than once) had an accident in the folks car. The last time, their agent told them that if he ever drove their car again AND he had an accident, then the policy would be voided immediately prior to the accident, meaning they would have no insurance. Dad used to look at the dents that he managed to "install" and try to figure out how it happened. His analogy was understood, but his ways of introducing a method to the damage were funny (to me). Some things just defy logic.
