Removing the dash in a 65
How difficult is it to remove the Dashboard in a 65. My parts truck has a nicer dash than my project truck. Does it unbolt or do you have to cut it out? Has anyone every done this before?

Re: Removing the dash in a 65
It can be done, about 8 gazillion spot welds to drill out though.

Re: Removing the dash in a 65
I was going to do the same thing only to shave everything but you have to remove the windshield and then there are sevral spot welds along the outter pinc weld. Do a search and there are a few builds on here that have removed them.

It's not that bad.
I have done several, I have one dash hanging in the shop.

Like others have said remove windshield. There are spot welds on that pinch weld and bolts on the sides and to steering column/brake pedal support.

Re: Removing the dash in a 65
So you cut the spot welds to get it out. But I have to ask, how do you put it back? Weld it back in?
I worked around my dash when I did my interior, once you pull everything out you can reach back there pretty easily to clean and plumb stuff, etc.

Re: Removing the dash in a 65
Thanks for all of the input guys. I will definatly try in first in the parts truck. Any advice on taking the crack windsheild out of the parts truck? I will have my good windshield professionally removed and later installed.

DONT take a hammer to it, you will just end up with little pieces of glass everywhere. Windshields are usually 2 pieces of glass laminated together. You can usually cut the exterior outer strip off of it, or cut the interior outer strip from it to cleanly remove it.

Re: Removing the dash in a 65
we just removed the windshield from the '66. we started at an upper corner on the inside and pulled the rubber back and pushed out on the windshield, just work slow and use constant pressure ,should come out fairly easy....

Re: Removing the dash in a 65
If you want to save the windshield, just go ahead and cut the gasket....they're only $40-50.00. Besides it wouldn't hurt to have a new one when installing the windshield.
