Post tv cable on a 3 speed?

I'm transplanting a small block with a 350 tranny out of a 89 caprice, into 3/4 ton 75 chevy truck. On the cars gear selector was drive:1st;2nd, only. Which I think should be a 3 speed only, but there is what appears to be a tv cable from the carb to the tranny? Is that right? I thought only overdrive tranny's had tv cable.

i think what your seeing is the kickdown cable. this connects to the passenger side of the transmission and the connects to the bottom of the throttle linkage on the carb (its on all th350 trannys). it is not a tv cable like an overdrive has to control the transmission. it just tells the tranny when you really stomp on the throttle to kick down to a lower gear. the modulator on the th 350 is vacum controled unlike on the overdive which are controlled by the tv

BTW 79big10 just helped me replace this cable on mine yesterday

hope this helps

The main differance between a kick down cable and the TV cable on the overdrives is the TV controll fluid pressure and the downshift cotrol. The Kick down only controls the down shifting whe you floor it.
You can leave the kick down disconnected with no accelerated tranny wear.
