Re: 1" shackles

I am using my shackles or 1" of drop . Most shackles are 2" but have two holes in them . The top hole is the 2" drop . If you use the second hole , it should only give 1" of drop . If you are only looking for about one inch of drop but want to save a little money , go to a salvage yard and get some shackles from an 88 up chevy truck . They are a little longer than 73-87 shackles and will offer between 1/2" to 3/4" of drop .

That spring is about 3/4" thick so it is good for a 3/4-1" drop. It is never used unless you put a load in the rear, then it kicks in when the spring pack sits on it.

Not unless you load more than 500 lbs in the rear. I've run mine without the load spring since installing a drop kit. I've also added traction bars. I've carried a 455 Rocket engine without any problems. My truck actually runs better if I have some weight in the bed.

Re: 1" shackles

So if he has a flip kit ( axle on top of springs ) removing the 3/4" thick bottom spring will drop another inch?

I am going through similar motions with my Big 10. It has 7 springs per side, don't need some... Removing the thickest and adding a 2" drop shackle should gain me about 3" of lowering. I think...

Re: 1" shackles

with a flip kit isnt the load spring on the bottom of the spring pack and the rear on top of the springs.. I guess the spring pack settles some when you remove the load spring. Am I correct?

before I did a flip kit I had 2" drop shacles and 3 out who's know's how many and it gave me a just a little over a 3" drop in the back and a nice ride

same setup with a flipkit

there was no axle travel it might of been a better ride with shock extenders and a bigger notch
