Glove Box Door Locked
Hello everybody, I just bought a 55 first series to restore , drive and enjoy. It has a perfect dash and gauges except some #@$^0- cut the radio mounting holes and installed a CD player. Anyway the glove box is locked and I can't pick it, I don't want to pry on it , I cannot take it to the locksmith because I have the seat and tank out . so any suggestions ? The door is perfect and I don't want to screw it up . They are very hard to find one for the 54 55 in any kind of good condition. Thanks for your help. I will try to post a pic. thanks

Re: Glove Box Door Locked
Does your truck have a cardboard glove box liner like the 67-72 trucks? If so I'd cut through that to get to the backside of the lock.

Re: Glove Box Door Locked
I would just rip the cardboard glovebox out from underneath the dash and take out the lock cylinder and replace both the glovebox and the cylinder. They are both cheap items that can be replaced.

Re: Glove Box Door Locked
Carefully make two holes in the cardboard glove box, one for a small flat screwdriver, the second for a light. Use the screwdriver to undo the lock latch. If you have room and are a contorsonist you can do it from the back so the holes cannot been seen. I had to do the same on my 64 Chevelle.

Re: Glove Box Door Locked
Just drill out the lock if you are going to replace it.

Re: Glove Box Door Locked
I thought the door key and the glove box were the same, if it is orginal.
