Unhappy Fuel Tank Problems

Hi Guys,

I'm having a problem with my truck and was hoping you could help me.

I basically swapped a '88 Crew Cab Cab onto a '84 Crew Cab Chassis, and now I'm having problems getting fuel to the carb.

Right now the Oil Psi and Fuel Level gauges are both pegged way past full. Moving the fuel tank switch doesn't help. I noticed the '84 Frame had a round rubber two prong connector that came from fuel selector valve. The '88 cab has a two wire weatherpack connector and one other lead coming from the firewall out into the engine bay.

I guess that was for the '88 frame fuel setup. Now, any guess on what the problem is?

On my 81 crew cab, I had problems with the gauge not working on the left tank, it would go pegged full....It was the connection on the tank and sender itself. The one thing to remember is that the 88 was a TBI motor and the 84 was/ is carburated...which fuel set up are you using? That would explain the difference in the connectors...sorry not much help...

I see.

I'm using the carb motor out of a '79 truck.

I'm wondering if the extra connectors on the '88 cab are for the electric fuel pumps.

Does the switch up in the cab actually use power?

Thanks.

Dave- Are the extra connectors you are refering to on the passenger side of the firewall just inbd of the heater box area? Thats where my fuse blocks are for my pump and relays. And I do beleive that the switch for the tank draws power.

Actually the extra connectors are on the wiring harness bulkhead on the firewall on the drivers side.

I kind of figured out the wiring tonight, but I still can't get the gauge to move from way past full or switch from tank to tank.

Is it possible for the valve itself to be causing this?
