Question about an 84

I'm looking at an '84 and the guy says that there is a little rust in both kick panels. Is this an indication of something else or is this a common spot to go? I always thought the rockers and cab corners were the first to go. What else should I look for? Thanks.

Re: Question about an 84

mine had alot of leaves that kicked down from the cowl and in the bottom of the fenders and that is what i think made mine rust there.. i sanded and painted it and cleared out the fenders and havent had a problem since

Re: Question about an 84

When he says "kick panels" is he referring to the inside of the cab? That's not too common with out the aforementioned rockers and cab corners.

The most common area that goes first is the passenger fender. The front goes because of the battery run off, and the rear goes because of a/c drip.

Re: Question about an 84

He actually didn't say kick panels. He said "area beside the driver's foot and area beside the passenger's foot". He did say the battery tray was rusted as well as some of the inner fender. I just wondered what would make one rust there.

Re: Question about an 84

Mine is rusty in that area. I can tell you it is from the drain area from the cowl being clogged with muck and orr water from the floor area running down and pooling in the kickpanal and door jamb. My truck had rubbe mats and that was why this area rotted instead of the whole floor board.

another area to look at is around the windshield seal and upper portions of the door jamb near the windshield. I have seen alot of these area trucks rot out there.

Re: Question about an 84

in my truck something was really wrong with drainage every time it would rain there would be a puddle of water in the floor board and that's what caused most of the rust in my truck on kick panel, and the channel for the cab weather stripping, and the inside of the kick panels it was full of leaves what others have said, and I have also noticed the fire wall will rust where heater core is at, also on the door where the screws go into the vent windows
