Re: need some help
I think it depends on what you want to get out of your p/u, are you trying mold this thing into sweet daily driver or are you planning on going all the way and eventually taking it out to the track? I was just on the GM Performance parts website, there is an engine build program complete with simulated dyno, and both these engines have nice hp/torque lines. Personally I like the 383, but that being said, a wise man once stated there's "No Replacement For Displacement" so if you have the means you midas well go BIG. I wonder if anyone has dropped a 572 into one of these trucks yet...?

Re: need some help
You can find the vortec 454s pretty cheaply..under a grand for lower mileage one..I think I am gonna do the big block swap but what do I need to pull it off in my 71 that was originally home to a small block and th350? Also on the vortec 454 can I bolt a muncie m-21 or m-22 4 speed to it? and The newer 454s take the same old big block mounts right?Oh I intend to use my 71 as a street/strip cruiser

Re: need some help
Yes, the newer Vortec 454s bolt in the same as earlier big blocks did.
