really quick question?
im gonna put in a new alternator!
it is a one wire alt but im also gonna put a volt meter, but i want to know if i run the volt meter directly to the slalt? |

To check for voltage you put the plus side to the hot wire and the other side to ground. I would think all you need to do is to splice a wire to the alternator wire and then to the voltmeter and the other side of the voltmeter to ground. Maybe someone else that has done it could chime in.
Make sure you have a good ground from battery to the engine and from engine to frame. May even put one in for the radiator support. A lot of the bolts and metal to metal contact may have oxidized over 30+ years. |

If you're going to install an aftermarket volt meter, all you need to do is tap into a "switched" power supply like the "ACC" point on your fuse box, or any other thing that turns on & off with the key.
Then a good ground to something metal in the cab.
