Re: I got her all buttoned up Today!
Interesting paint on the valve covers. I'm curious as to why that color?

Jake, motor looks good! JD, some of the GMC v-6 's had those valve covers. They came stock that way.

Re: I got her all buttoned up Today!
The color is supposed to be GMC RED. Actual shade is Ford Engin Red but no one made a rattle can high temp paint. The shade is so close you cannot tell the differance.
I have 3 diffrent sets of valve covers. The plaid you see, another st I'm painting solid red. and another st I'm going to have chromed along with the REALLY RARE Hood ornamant.

Yes those are factory mounts. No one makes them anymore, so I had to send them to Steel Rubber to have them re-vulcanized. Csoliz The hood ornament produced for only the 2 years they had the double eyebrow 1960-1961 hood called "Jet Intake Pod Styling" for the GMC only. The 1958-59 Hood Ornament is different but close. They changed design of the wing intake pods on the ornament. Most folks don't know the differance. I've been lucky over the past 3 years that I've been able to either find or buy all of the options for the truck. Here is the rally rare stuff OEM stuff Hood Ornamnt Valve Covers Dinsmore Mirror Compass AM radio 4 speed Automatic Transmission Delux Heater/defrost A/C - SUPER RARE Probally will not use. P/S electric Dash Clock Tack Front Bumper Gaurds Windshild washer pump 2 speed wind sheild wipers 4 way Emergency Flasher After market Cigg lighter glove box light day/night mirror pass side visor Pass side mirror Arm rest both doors Locking Fuel Cap Still am looking for Front Tow Hooks (keep getting outbid) Spotlight

Re: I got her all buttoned up Today!
That is beautiful! I am jealous. One of the theories behind the plaid valve covers was that during the '63 model year there was a re-call during engine manufacturing and to seperate the engines that were updated from the ones that weren't, they covered the valve covers with plaid shelf paper, but somewhere along the line they painted them that way....I wish we knew how they did it.
I can't wait 'till my 205 looks that good.

Re: I got her all buttoned up Today!
Is that the Holley 500 you are running? Also where in the world did you find a new short-block? I can't find any in old junk yards let alone a new one...

Yes thats a 500 CFM Holley she can breath a lot better when the carb is not so small. If you want to do this conversion s my webshots anfd Jolly's page. If you need to find a 2 barrle intake several members may have them. Flightline put the short block on ebay about a year ago and I got it for $177.00 plus shipping $310 total (I'm not bs'ing you) I put up a reserve price of $500, I ended up bidding against another club member who did not tell me he was bidding (we try to honor the "He bid first" rule with the 60-66 club. He's probally still mad with me . I bought it as a spare engine not knowing the other truck would be stolen during Gustav. CheifRocka, The 4 speed is a "hydromatic" and survived Hurricane Katrina by 4". The trans. was sitting in my friend's shop (Joe Manents in webshots) in the loft area the water got up to 13' and stopped before his loft flooded. The gear shift is as follows: N, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, R. If you are carring a heavy load you put her in 1-2 that way you only use 1st. and 2nd. gear and so on with lighter loads. Her working days are over and the most she will hual is my fat butt, potable chairs and shade arnings for cruisin', grandkids for parades. The reson that we have the gears selectors as we do today can be traced back directly to this trans, and here's why. How many teenage boys used dads truck dropped her in low and shot backwards into the car behind them in traffic? OR even through the garage door? I just bet there were dozns and dozens.

Re: I got her all buttoned up Today!
Hopfully next month with some spare money I'll put on duals 2 1/2" so the engine won't have back pressure.

Re: I got her all buttoned up Today!
That's awesome! I hope to hear a soundbyte or see the video of the engine running. I'd love to hear a V-6 with duals....
