Oil Filter?

just read this thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=3078236 and i guess you guys say FRAMS are junk, and i have a fram on my truck now. so what do you guys perfer, i was thinking of a K&N. and im using using Q horsepower synthedic oil.

I run mobile1 filters. Wix are good filters as well (from everything I've read), and I seem to remember that Napa Gold filters are a wix.

My $.02, if its worth that much.

I don't know about the KN filters but Napa gold or wix is my choice.

I always try to use Puralator pure1 filter but I like Wix filters too.

i had a dodge neon that i did a 2.4 conversion to i installed the new k&n filter on it 3 months later spun a rod bearing, i pulled that motor out installed another junk yard motor drove it for six months changed oil twice then i was at advance looked up and sd hey ill put the k&n one on drove it for 3 months and spun another bearing, dont know if its the fillter or if its just coincidental but i will never use them again.I will and always have used mobil one i like there filter as well ive heard good things about the prulator micronic as well but i really like mobil1

I have used Fram for the last 20 years on every car or truck I have had and I have never had anything go wrong. I have built motors (4cyl and 8's), raced a few of them, and still, never had a problem with the filtration of a Fram.
Speaking of oil and filters, I think it's funny when people go Mobil1 synthetic, then realize 3k miles down the road that they don't want to keep making a 'car payment' to change the oil, and when they go back to normal oil, it reacts with the synthetic and foams up in the case, leaving them confused when they check the dipstick.

If you do a google search FRAM had a very large recall last year on their filters - not good news - Fram used to make a good product - no longer - the use cardboard when others use metal

EEETS TRUE! Fram are garbage... It's actually a little hard just to google search the studies that cut all these filters open and measured things.. like filtering surface area, metal/cardboard/plastic pieces inside, feed and drainback design...


Anyway... Mobil1, K&N, and Bosch are all made by the same company, and are wayayayayay better than wix (aka napa), fram, etc...

Synthetic oil, and a good filter are a small investment for something so close to your heart

WHat about Royal Purple has anyone used this Brand of Oil Filter it being new and all.."Designed to provide 12000 miles of service" I wouldn't go that long but hey maybe on my honda Ok maybe I wouldn't.. But here check it out

Same here. I've been using them for as long as don't care to remember. And still use them on my vehicles.

But, after reading the problems people have removing them, I'm thinking of testing a different brand on my 68 six cylinder. I always have a hell of a time removing the filter. I had to chisel them off the last couple of times. I adhere to the lubing the seal principle but it hasn't helped on this one.

I have used FRAM filter my whole life and have never had any issues. If you over tie them when you put it on you are going to have an issue with any filter....

Not to sidetrack, but I lube the seal on my mobile 1's as well. I spin the filter until its snug, then 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn further by hand, and walk away. I use no filter wrench, and never have to have one to get my filters back off either. Hand tighten on, remove by hand. I've never had trouble with a filter leaking (now everwhere ELSE leaks on most of my engines, but that's a whole different set of issues). Now, I may not be the best reference here, since you won't meet a lot of people with a stronger grip than me. I can apply more pressure than just about anybody else I've met - other than a few pipe-fitters, professional welders, and boilermakers - simply due to the overwhelming size of my hands.

I switched from Fram to K&N because of all the bad stuff I've been reading about Fram lately. I also like that K&N's got a nut on the front of their filters that makes them easy to get off; no messing with a filter wrench or anything.

Delco - Meh
Pennzoil - Never!!!!!

Never coughed up the money for a mobil but I've heard good things from them.

And the nut on the bottom or the K&N is a joke, it's so flimsy it'll round out real easily.

I've used Wix now, there was a time many years ago, when I bought the cheapest (fram)... hasnt failed me yet... at one time I had a Toyota, and needed to use a dealer filter due to the bypass valve? so got rid of the toy... and the girlfriend that owned it

Baldwin is the best. A Napa guy told me that Napa Gold filters are made by wix. I spend a lot of time on construction sites (for the last 10 years) and most of the heavy equipment mechanics use Baldwin. Those engines go through hell every day. Baldwin makes filters for everything. Fuel, air, hydraulic, whatever.

My budy use to allways cut his filters open to see what was stuck in the media when he was doing major engine work.The best filter he found for the money was ACdelco there is way more media in them than a Fram and many other filters.

Fram used to make good filters when our Dads were buying them in in the 60-70's. They are one of the poorest quality filters sold today. WIX is what I prefer, Napa Gold is made by WIX but in my town are more expensive.
