Pomona Swapmeet roadtrip this weekend! Picking up a LQ9/4L80E!!!!!
Heading off to SOCAL this weekend to pickup an LQ9/4L80E for the 67 C20 and attend the Pomona swap meet.
My son was suppose to go with me but he crashed a dirtbike last Sunday and is laid up. No broken bones but a sprained ankle and wrenched back. He'll live. So I called my friend and expert fabricator John - aka ChiefRocka and invited him to join me. All expense paid. The plan is to drive down Saturday to see the motor and square that all up. Then on Sunday we are off to the Pomona swap meet. I know he is psyched and so am I! Not to rub it in guys but the swap meet has 4000 cars and 3000 vendors! Oh, and the weather - it will be around 80! Have to remember to wear shorts and sunscreen. I plan on taking a ton of pics. Anybody else down in SOCAL going? |

Sounds like fun, but if you don't have a specific list of stuff to look for, you can kind of get lost, it's so big. I love going, but it's a 4 1/2 hour drive for me.

Used to go there whenever they had it, when I lived near there from 86 to 88. It was a great meet then also. I can only think on how big it has grown over the years. It was held about 4 times a year back then. What's it up to now, 6 times a year?

Re: Pomona Swapmeet roadtrip this weekend! Picking up a LQ9/4L80E!!!!!
My dad flew out from Tucson to go there with me this weekend. The best place for us is the TRUCK SHOP. New and repo parts good prices, and they do cash deals at the swap meet. I'll be the guy walking around with a set of 3/4 ton hubcaps for sale.
Three tips: 1. Show up early, the place starts to pack up around noon. 2. The parts section is massive, if you are looking for parts bring a wagon don't try and carry everything. 3. Bring drinks and food Have fun! |

Re: Pomona Swapmeet roadtrip this weekend! Picking up a LQ9/4L80E!!!!!
I was gonna go cause the weather is great this weekend! Then my wife reminded me we are going to see a play with another couple at 2 pm and I get off work at 8 am and I have to change my trans fluid and get cleaned up. So I am screwed. However there is the next one 8 weeks away so.
It takes me about 15 minutes to get there from home. |

And I take my own cooler.. [/QUOTE] You are right....how did I forget those? You gotta bring your own cooler, its the only way. Last time I went, I found a power steering pulley that I needed. The dude wanted $150 for it. I almost fell over laughing! He said, "Well, look around, I see 10,000 people here, it will sell." I said, "Yep, I see at least 10,000 people here. Know what else I see? Empty hands and empty wagons." Lots of people wandering around, and nobody buying. It has been that way the last few times I have gone, so my Dad and I decided not to go back for a while. |

Re: Pomona Swapmeet roadtrip this weekend! Picking up a LQ9/4L80E!!!!!
Thats true, one cool thing is that the folks from The Truck Shop pay your taxes at the show. They dont carry everything that they have in the catalogs but I saved about $75 on my order so I got more parts. I mainly go if I got a car to sell, like Ebay at least to expose it to alot more people.

Re: Pomona Swapmeet roadtrip this weekend! Picking up a LQ9/4L80E!!!!!
I was just gonna say, the only good thing is that the Truck Shop is there, and they cut their prices for the swapmeet, which is very cool and what a swapmeet is all about.
There are always a ton of killer rods and such, just not so much for our trucks. |

Re: Pomona Swapmeet roadtrip this weekend! Picking up a LQ9/4L80E!!!!!
Yea seriously Dan. When you own 12 vehicles you have to make concessions to maintain domestic tranquility. Besides the world is not just all about trucks and cars! Probably gonna see another on Friday night, George Burns and Gracie Allen monologue. Saturday is the roadster show in Pomona and Sunday is 4 wheelin in Azusa Canyon. Thursday morning when I get off work gonna have breakfast with my retired co-workers. Thursday afternoon gonna work on my daughters K1500 Blazer and replace the exhaust donuts and change her trans fluid and filter. So you see, most of my time revolves around cars and trucks but not all.

Re: Pomona Swapmeet roadtrip this weekend! Picking up a LQ9/4L80E!!!!!
I got a set of Hi-jackers for my c10 for $10, a stock non-working radio for $5, and a complete heater control panel for $15. Sunday I got a fire extinguisher that is the same color as the interior for $10, and the Eastwood guy had anodized finish stripper (so I didn't have to pay the shipping)
