changing 64 brakes to 79 ?

i'm getting the frontend of a 79 and want to swap it over to my 64 what did ya'll do about the brake lines. what length do you buy? do i have to bend and cut and flare them or could i go to the parts stores and get the standard brake lines for the 79?

The brake lines from the 79 won't work unless you reroute your front brake lines. The lines on the 79 route to a crossmember in front of the motor.

On my 64 I went to the auto parts and bought some pre-terminated lines, bent them up and made them work. At the time it was the quickest, easiest and cheapest way for me to get it done. I don't recall the lengths that I bought though.

i got my 79 frontend today. he just cut the frame behind the front end, and gave me everything. $100 how did i do? i'm gonna clean it up and coat it with rust bullet.






what should i use as a master cylinder and power booster? something like a 79?
should i try to paint the calipers?

I'd say that was a great score for $100.

Do a search on the booster question. Several people have discussed this in the past.

I left mine manual and swapped in a blazer master cylinder.

Crazy as it may sound, I used a booster and master cylinder from a 93-96 camaro (not sure of year) in my old 63. Worked great, sorry I dont have any pics though.

Use your orignial crossmember. You don't have to take it out. If you want you can just bolt up the control arms and the rest of the steering componants to your truck. Make sure you use a rez kit for the steering box first then you can position the idler arm to drill the new holes.
I used parts from a 75 chevy truck. I acually took the front brake lines out with the porportion valve and laid them in my truck and they worked perfectly. I had to run brake lines to the valve from my master is all. The booster is from a 79 and you have to do some fab work to the arm that attaches to the pedal. Someone was selling booster that bolted right up for about $90 on e bay. If I run across that I will try and put in a link. The picture is about the best one I have seeing my truck is torn down now,, Again...

i'm not using the crossmember it was just easier to get it that way. what rear axles is everyone using to get the 5 lug to match the front?

I used a master cylinder and booster from a 77 Blazer.

I also used the pedal assembly.

It bolted up easy enuff. I had to drill some extra holes. The tilt steering from the Blazer went in easy, too.

'71 12 bolt, from an automatic truck, so it's got 307:1s. 3/4 inch wider on each side, but it'll bolt in.
