Disc Brakes
Well I cant think of a good way to change my 6 lug over to 5x4.75! So I am going to buy new drop spindles and disc kit. Just wondering who are some of the best companies are to look into. Also what kinda money am I looking at?

I'm not aware of any turnkey kits that will get you to 5x4.75. There are several suppliers who can get you to 5x5. If you're set on 5x4.75, I suspect you'll need to have your rotors drilled. Or, depending on what other mods you may be interested in, you may consider replacing the front clip (I'm not a fan of the MII front end kits for our trucks because of the weight, but they generally are 5x4.75).

X2...I pressed out the old studs, drilled my rotors for a 5 on 4.75 pattern, and pressed in new studs.

Well I am set on the 5x4.75 I am running the C4 rearend. I already have the dropmember so the MII is out. I am probably going to just redrill. Mcgaughy offers a 13" 5x4.75 but it is pricey!!! Just looking for a reasonable way to do it. Wish I could comvert mine to 5 pretty easily!

What wheels are you going to run? You can have two different bolt patterns. If the lugs aren't exposed it won't matter.

I dont know what wheels I will run. I currently have six lug so I am going to have to change to 5 lug then drill it. Just wondering if there is a way to do this without buying all new stuff? If not who offers the front drop spindle/disc kits?
13" Disc are offered by Mcgaughy in the 5x4.75 pattern. They are expensive! |

Use the '81-'87 truck light duty(1" thick rotor) spindles and the '89-'92 Camaro 1LE rotor. These are available as a drop spindle as well. Direct swap and gives you the 5x4.75 pattern. Depending on the year model of your truck, you will need to update to the '73-'87 ball joints/tie rods, but they likely need replacement and the late model parts are cheaper...

Yes. You will need to change upper/lower ball joints and inner/outer tie rods to the '73-'87 parts. If you had a '71-'72, you could get away with just uppers and outers. I am also working on a super cheap/easy way to upgrade to Corvette C5 front brakes as well, but I haven't finalized it yet...

As quickchevy says CPP does have a kit to convert the 6-lug over to 5X4-3/4 using the original spindles but, if you want to use dropped spindles this is the wrought you will have to go.
Well after much research and comparisons this is what I have come up with. I would like to thank gringoloco he helped me out here. The 73-87 2-1/2 drop spindle from CPP uses the A-5 inner bearing that has a 1-3/8" bore. This spindle uses the 1-1/4 rotor with the 5X5 bolt circle. This is the same size spindle as the OEM as well. Belltech has a 3" drop spindle that uses the A-6 inner bearing that has a 1-1/4" bore. This spindle uses a 1" rotor and there for can either be used with the light duty truck 1" 5X5 bolt circle rotor or the Camaro 1LE 1" 5X4.75 bolt circle rotor. There it is. This is the only way that I found to switch from the 5X5 bolt circle to the 5X4.75 bolt circle using the OEM rotors. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I have seen several different ways of doing it. I would like to see your approach.
I have no doubt that adding larger calipers on stock rotors is beneficial. I feel that to take advantage of the larger calipers you really need larger rotors too.

What are you trying to accomplish? The ball joint swap is as easy as a stock replacement. The lowers press in- the uppers bolt in. If you are looking at doing the C5 stuff, it will work on a light duty spindle that accepts a stock backing plate, be it stock or drop...

Hey Brad, ball joints are pretty straight forward, you can rent the tool at one of the local auto parts stores there in town.
Are you running tubular arms with the dropmember?

I am running the stock arms. I did the mod to make them work.
So if I get the Belltechs, and the ball joints. What else will I need to pick up. Can I buy it at parts stores, or do I need to find a wreck? |

Brad, you can get it all at the parts store. Just depends on which spindle you use. I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but you buy the ball joint for the year spindle that you are using.
