Photos Wanted of GM Cruise Installs
Wanted!
1) I would love to see photos of the cable routing/support from the servo to the carb. 2) Would also like to see photos of the penetration(s) through the firewall for the vacuum-break tube, speedo cable, and wiring. Directions show one penetration but it looks tough to get three things through one grommet. 3) Lastly a photo of the vacuum source at the intake-manifold fitting. The more photos the better! Thanks!!! |

Re: Photos Wanted of GM Cruise Installs
Dan if you go to ricks first generation camaro, you will be able to get the manifold "t'' that you need, expect about $18 for it, you will need the "T" with two vaccum nipples and the fitting for the brake booster. On my set up, all three lines went through the firewall by way of the speedo cable grommet. I used WD40 and some dawn dish detergent and everything went through without problems. The servo cable moves from fender well and mounts via the throttle cable bracket just above the throttle cable, it is pretty much a free standing unit once everything is in place. Hope this helps, clarifys things, Harold

Re: Photos Wanted of GM Cruise Installs
Thanks Harold and Livrat! The photos of the 68 system look like the cruise parts go through the same grommet as the speedo cable.
If there are photos of 71 and/or 72 systems, I would love to see some. Thanks! |

Re: Photos Wanted of GM Cruise Installs
Here's two pics of a 71/72 setup I got from Rod awhile back-
I realize these pics really don't help with your specific questions but maybe they'll help in some way. I used these pics for reference when I installed mine, I just realized this pic was before I had time to hook up the cables and vacuum sources-

Re: Photos Wanted of GM Cruise Installs
I just found a cruise unit from a 68 or 69 gmc. I did not get the cables or the wiring harness, or the turn/button arm. I got an arm off a van that looks correct, (black end, smooth with the button in the end) but I need to sourc the other stuff. Does anyone have any spare parts out there? Steve

Re: Photos Wanted of GM Cruise Installs
Into69z, the black ended lever is not correct for your application. The early trucks came with an all chrome lever with button at end. The black is acceptable for 71-72 but not correct for them either as it came on vans. 71-72 has a dash mounted switch labeled "cruise master" and does not light up- 73 up dash switch does light up. The wiring harness is available repop from m&h wiring and others, the cable is hard to find from controller to speedo, you can use the original cable from trans to controller. Did you get the under dash vac switch and brake light switch? Not sure of availability of vac. switch but the brake light switch is reproduced as well. Did you get the clip from the linkage on throttle rod and the chain that it attaches to?

Re: Photos Wanted of GM Cruise Installs
71super-thanks for the info-not knowing stuff has cost me! I found a 71-72 cruise unit-I didn't think it was a factory set-up, but now you mentioned the swicth under the dash and it was there-truck is now gone. The one I have now is off a 68-69 gmc, I have the fender mounted unit w/ bracket, the gas pedal still hooked up to the vacuum servo with the chain and the linkage to the carb. I took the wiring out of the same van that I got the turn switch/button so I would have the connecters at least and then could cobble something together, I did take off a later model a cruise vacuum foot switch and a brake light switch-both with brackets, again thinking if that's all I had I could make it work. Was the chrome arm plastic or metal? I see Classic lists one for $180.00 (ouch!) but I don't know if it's the right one. Of course , I would like to do the job right or forget it a sell the stuff I have. I do appreciate your knowledge and time, and if you can think of anything else, or have a lead on parts-let me know-thanks Steve

Re: Photos Wanted of GM Cruise Installs
All this information is great. I read a thread not to long ago and someone was saying that they had an installation manual for the cruise control. If anyone has one and wouldn't mind posting a copy of the instructions that would be even better. I have the setup for my truck and my only question is about the vacuum hoses. If someone knows which ports on the transducer go to vacuum switch, vacuum source and actuator, I would be most greatful.

Re: Photos Wanted of GM Cruise Installs
I sent the copy i had of the manual to Dantip a couple of weeks ago, but the information for the hook up is located in the service manual in the accessories section -15 I think- As far as the hook up yes hook up is the same on the switches through 76 at least- should be a 3 prong plug. The unit in Classic is the same as the one you pulled from the van and is the only replacement that is offered, and they have gone out of sight in price recently. The original lever for 68-69 was plastic and metal (knob was plastic, stem was metal) I know a gentleman in Kansas that deals with the cruise setups alot- Roger Koop-913-422-1272. He has alot of pieces for these units in used and NOS but expect to pay.

Re: Photos Wanted of GM Cruise Installs
Hello Dantip, Are you able to post a copy of the pages of the manual that pertain to the cruise setup? It would really be helpful. Also does anyone have a diagram of the internal workings of the transducer?
