Engine Paint
Where can I find the hugger orange paint for my engine? And, do I need a basecoat or primer?
Thanks |

Re: Engine Paint
If you can't find it in the local auto parts stores, which you should be able to, but if you can't, I ordered all my paint from JEG's and they had every thing I needed. I painted my engine Fire Engine Red, and it was hard to find in the locals in an engine temp resistant paint. JEG's had it, If I'm not mistaken, I think VHT makes it, but I could be wrong. and I didn't primer mine, just wire brushed really well, and then wipe clean with MKT or Mineral Spirits.

Re: Engine Paint
Very nice... and cheaper than I'd expected. Can I paint the headers with this stuff also?

Why not paint engine same as your truck? Paint won't burn till about 300+ degrees. If yer engine gets that hot, you won't be worrying about the paint burning.

Re: Engine Paint
No primer needed for engine paint. Paint several light coats instead of one heavy coat. Engine enamel is a bit thin and will run if you're not careful. Here's a secret, warm the spray can quite a bit(in front of a heater, not too close....boom) before you paint, will stick better with no runs. Hi-temp black or hi-temp cast iron gray for your headers, no primer on those either.

Re: Engine Paint
go to a schucks, checker or kragen and by VHT brand engine paint. It is good to about 550 degrees and comes in about every color. It is about 8 bucks a can...

Re: Engine Paint
The best engine paint I have used is Duplicolour Chevy red-orange. I have painted about 7 engine and they all look awsome. Don't use primer.

Re: Engine Paint
oreilly's carries 1200 degree manifold paint - but nothing's perfect on exhaust - it just gets too hot - but it's the cheapest route. $8 a can.
