'69 C-10 fuel tank capacity ?
One book says 21 gallons , another says 21.5 gallons . When my truck's dead on empty it will only hold 17 gallons . Does it really have 4 more gallons in it ? Need to have tank close to empty as I want to change the fuel pump . Still remember how gas feels running down my arm . Takes a bit to plug the line . THANKS !

Re: '69 C-10 fuel tank capacity ?
My 69 holds 17 spillin over the top. I call it a 16 gal tank. Maybe 70/71 tank could hold more? Blazer/ Burp tank might hold 21.

Re: '69 C-10 fuel tank capacity ?
The cab tank on my '69 holds a over 20 gals.
I've never run it dry to find out exactly, but I have put 20+ gals. in it. If you have a rubber line feeding the fuel pump; get yourself a golf tee & as soon as you pull rubber line off the pump, cram the golf tee into it.

Just clamp off the rubber line with a vise-grip before you pull it loose. The needle nose ones work the best.

Re: '69 C-10 fuel tank capacity ?
Have the rubber hose ready to go & plugged on 1 end.
Take the old 1 off the hard line & cram the new rubber hose on real quick like. I are not a redneck, honest, I'm not.

Re: '69 C-10 fuel tank capacity ?
I never got more than 18 in mine either and I ran it dry twice trying to see if I could put 21 in it.

Re: '69 C-10 fuel tank capacity ?
there were many with 17/18 gallon tanks. But all the lit (and every truck I've owned) held 21 and some chainge.
As for how to do the job at hand, slide the seat forward, disconnect the fitting at the sending unit. Fire up engine and rev till it stalls. hook up line, and do the pump and rubber lines. It's never a good idea to use vise grips on a rubber line. There's a special tool made to clamp hoses, and it doesn't have teeth on it. |

Re: '69 C-10 fuel tank capacity ?
That's weird that the lit all says 21 and there are tanks that only hold 18. Glad I have confirmation that I am not completely nuts though!

Re: '69 C-10 fuel tank capacity ?
We had the tank out for carpet and drained and cleaned it out on the 1970. It took exactly 4 gallons before the needle started to move from E. Wanted to know how much "reserve" there was. Now if the fuel pump can suck that low, I don't know.
As for the pump, LHM has the best plan.
