Custom gas tank question
I am thinking about building my own custom fuel tank. My question is, what do I coat the new, bare metal with on the inside? I tried searching, but only found sealants for old tanks, not new material. Thanks.

Re: Custom gas tank question
Do you think using any of those products would have a negative effect?
You could set it up to use a bladder. (my plan) |

Re: Custom gas tank question
If the tank is tight and doesn't leak I wouldn't think you'd need to coat it with anything. Far as I know the OEMs never coated the inside of their tanks, and every replacement one I ever installed was bare steel too.

Re: Custom gas tank question
If you're gonna be welding up your own tank then I would make it out of aluminum.

Re: Custom gas tank question
Ok. Guess I'll just make one up and see what happens. Wasn't sure if you needed a rust preventative or anything.

Re: Custom gas tank question
i dont know what they used or if they even used anything in our trucks in the tank, but i know the newer cars/trucks have some type of liner in them but i dont know what it is. no matter how well sealed your tank is condensation will still be able to get into the tank, remember you have to fill up some time, and nozzels do get rained on.
