Question for the options gurus - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have two sets of shoulder harness buckle retainers that mount to the center console for bucket seat trucks. I want people's opinions on which ones are factory correct for a 1972 truck. I purchased the tan boot style holders from a board member who removed them from a 72 Blazer with buckets/console. He also has removed this style personally from 4 other 71-72 Blazers and Suburbans, as well as buying a couple of consoles at swap meets that had the boot style retainers mounted on them. I also have a set of black ones, slightly different in design that I was also told were for 67-72 trucks. According to the parts books and illustrations I have seen, the black ones SHOULD be correct. However, I have never heard from anyone PERSONALLY that has seen them on or removed them from a factory truck console. Given my experience with mis-prints and errors in the books, I am starting to think the book might be wrong?? I really do not know so I am posing the question here on the forum. Shoulder harnesses were a rare option, so I do not have a whole lot to go on. Is it possible GM used both of these styles on our truck consoles? Maybe different years had different styles? The illustrations I saw for the black ones were from a 69 truck parts book. Any experience or help would be appreciated.

What a coincidence...I just found these 71 van buckets for sale and noticed they had the boot syle retainers mounted to the sides of the seat brackets. Here is the link: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=308377

Interesting...nobody has ever told me these came in vans. Maybe they were used in both vans and our trucks??

I believe the black set is for 67-68 buddy bucket seats.

Mounted to the front of the console/seat.

Thank you for your input! Every little bit helps. I was also told that the black set was used on bench seats, but had a different style mounting bracket.

Do the light colored ones have three hole mounting in a triangle?That`s how they mount to the console from what I`ve seen.

The assembly manual shows the black ones... they are just like clips, or hangers, right? I didn't see the rubber ones anywhere in there.

Yes, they are clips. I have not seen the rubber ones in the assembly manual either. But I have heard from several members that they have seen the rubber ones on the consoles personally, NOT the black ones. I have not had anyone yet tell me that they have personally seen or removed the black clip style on a console. This is why I am wondering if the book might be incorrect in this case??

Here is the pic I have from an assembly manual. Note that it is from 1969. I was wondering if it is possible they used the rubber boot style on the later (71-72) center consoles? So far it seems to be about 50/50 as to which ones were used.

led, bringing this back up for you. It is definitely the black ones. Had a guy at a swap meet that has been into these trucks since the 70's tell me he has only seen one truck with these on way back when, and it was a 71 or 72 Cheyenne Super with the black ones. Matter of fact, he had some N.O.S. ones there from when he bought old inventory back in the 80's. Of course I needed them for my truck so I couldn't resist, but they are exactly like your black ones. The black set pictured are not the correct ones for our years of trucks. They will work and about as close as your going to find. They were an accessory for 70-72 Impalas and possibly a few other models.
There is a guy here that gets them and bends the brackets and he sells them at the local swap meets...they are readily available on Ebay fairly cheap.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/70-71...Q5fAccessories

I believe that what Blazerman said is correct, and that the rubber ones were used in Vans. I think the Assembly Manual photo shows it correctly. Just my opinion and I have not actually seen an original setup in person either.

The ones I have pictured are different than the ones one E-bay. The part number is also different. Mine are 3992811.
