BB 74 Quadrajet... anything special???

Just pulled this out and rebuilt it, I knew it was for a 74 but just decoded it in my 74 service manual and looks like it is the only carb used for the 454 in the 1/2 ton trucks... Is this worth just using, or is there a market for the carb to one of us, and if so... being freshly rebuilt AND blueprinted as close as I could get to factory specs, anything special????Thanks guys...

Re: BB 74 Quadrajet... anything special???

I believe the body for all the 1980 quadrajet and before are the same, but the jets and metering rods are different specifications, depending on the motor and weight of the vehicle. But car ones have smaller primary bores.

Unless your carb is damaged, your existing rebuilt carb is the definition of factory specifications, that is if it is adjusted properly. It's a balance of economy and power and reliability. It can be tuned to get more power and/or mileage by experimenting with jets and metering rods.

Oh whoops, I didn't realize it isn't matching your truck. If you put that on a SBC it may be off or close if the motor is hopped up. I believe you could swap jets, and metering rods to suit the specifications of the motor you use.

Re: BB 74 Quadrajet... anything special???

oh.. im not worried about tuning it... these things have kind of become a recent passion of mine... I just didnt know if, like some of the musclecar carbs in the day, they are anything special. Like "don't use that one, build a different one cuz someone needs that carb for their resto!"... I dont believe its an 800cfm either, BUT I will say that I would have to change at least the primary enrichment system to get it to run lean enough for a stock or slightly modified small block... thanks for the input...
