Re: Need help fast before dark!

Sounds like it's droped and locked itself into the strike plate...what about taking the door panel of from inside the truck and reaching inside to releae the door latch, maybe worth a try.

Re: Need help fast before dark!

Sorry mate I thought it was shut completly and you could not open it...I understand what you mean now. If you have it open about 2" and it gets hung up on the fender then you have moved the hinges to far forward toward the front of the truck...get your weight behind that door and start pulling and tugging it in the direction of the rear of the truck away from the fender and that should give you the clearence you need to open her up all the way. Good luck with it hope you get it sorted.

Re: Need help fast before dark!

Thats annoying, I wish I was there to help ya. "Tip" when first you decide to move hinges it's a good idea to mark a line around them first so you can see how far you have moved from original position and in case you need to just go back to were they started.

Re: Need help fast before dark!

how destroyed is your fender/door?

how destroyed is the paint on said fender/door?

try prying it GENTLY as well as pulling to get it moving?

only if your not worried about bending/paint chipping?

Re: Need help fast before dark!

Okay, right up front, up not unsympathetic. I've tried more little fixes that end up being big fixes before I was through, than I can count. Trust me on that.

I'm assuming you're talking about the hinge bolts that attach to the cab, not the door; from your description.

My question is; if the driver side door is working, what's the immediate rush?

What I would do is calm down & just walk away for a few days.
Then on a nice peaceful weekend, get another pair of hands to help you. lift off the hood (it's only 4 bolts, & mark the hinges' location on the hood 1st), and then pull the outer fender.
Yeah, it's a tedious PITA, but it's not all that difficult.
Adjust your door and reinstall the fender and hood.
It'll be a learning experience and a confidence builder.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. And there are a ton of people here that can give you needed advice.

I woke up in the middle of the night & realized this won't work. There's a cowl bolt that requires the door to be open to access it.

Will the door open enough that you can get a distributor wrench on the bolts?

I saw a knock off of this 1 for about $*.

104 $27.25

"Reach around obstructions to turn the distributor lock nut with this double-ended wrench. It fits 1/2 and 9/16" lock nuts. Use an adapter to join wrenches or attach the wrench to a 3/8" ratchet or extension. Replacement part: 104-73 Coupler."

Re: Need help fast before dark!

If you still need to get the door open try using a couple of plastic spatulas, the kind you use in the kitchen. Put them between the door and fender where it hits first, hold them flat to the door while opening the door. Kind of like using a body spoon to pry it apart but the plastic wont destroy the panels. Happens a lot when cars are hit in the front. Hope this makes sense.

I have always been told that the striker plate should be removed when lining up the doors. after you get the door lined up, install the stirker, and adjust the striker as needed.
