bought a fan shroud and it doesnt fit..

went junkyardin today bought a fan shroud for 40$ got home cleaned it up, now it doesnt fit, it just barely scrapes the inside of the fan...

okay, now the shroud was out of a 68 gmc lwb v8

my motor is a 69-85 350ci

now would the fan be different between the 68 gmc motor and my motor I have now...kinda upset..but not bothing me...

and i asked what he'd want for the disc brake setup from a 71-72 chevy truck..he said bout 250$...sound like a good price?? sounds a LIL steep but idk, i think thats with im pulling it also, thanks!

Re: bought a fan shroud and it doesnt fit..

Do you mean the fan just barely scrapes the inside of the shroud? I had to take my brother-in-laws motor loose on the mounts and get it back straight in the frame. It was just off enough to make the fan hit on the passenger side of the shroud.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: bought a fan shroud and it doesnt fit..

I have noticed that they will rub sometimes when them bottom clips are not in right. I think that they have two different size clips that will fit.

I think there is room to move these a little left or right depending on which side it's rubbing.Mine rubbed when I made a left turn.(took me forever to figure out where the noise was coming from)Loosen the bolts and move it.It's only about an 8th of inch of adjustment.Tighten back up.If you're barely touching you could do this.

Re: bought a fan shroud and it doesnt fit..

If you have a long water pump and a flex fan the fit is snug, but can be adjusted as stated above to make it not rub.

As far as the suspension, I think that's too expensive.

I paid $75 for my whole set up out of a yard. I got the complete suspension, front brake lines, booster and master cylinder. It came from a '71 GMC. I also went ahead and bought all new suspension components to rebuild it too (that gets expensive fast!)

I think you can do better on the price.

I walked out of my yard with 73+ spindles and calipers for 60 ish. The rest was new parts (for my own good).

Re: bought a fan shroud and it doesnt fit..

For your safety NO on trimming the fan blades. Have you considered measuring the fan width and shopping for one a little smaller. If you trim your old one and don't get it perfectly balanced you could have it blow apart(flying metal) not good !!!

Re: bought a fan shroud and it doesnt fit..

Cutting a flex fan is suicide.

Their explosive enough as is.

i had the same thing happen to me. i just marked a line on each blade and took a bench grinder to the blades. very little was removed. problem solved.
