402 bbc

I have a '69 4x4, and intend to put in a 402, what issues am I going to run into? Also wondering on the lift, I have 35x12.50x15, and want to clear. What lift should I go with to adjust for the heavier motor, and set level with the top on.

Re: 402 bbc

I've got a bbc in my 69 K20 and I used Tuff Country's HD lift springs, basically they have an extra leaf in the regular spring pack.

6" springs would be the preferred lift to clear 35"s. You might want an extra 1" up front to help level it out, but it varies.

In regards to the fitment - here is a very good post in the 4x4 forum about putting a bbc in a 67-72 truck (applies the same to the 69-72 K5).

Re: 402 bbc

I lifted my Blazer 4" and run 35" tires just fine. I woudln't spend the extra money for a 6" lift it will cost much more. It's just not needed. The stiffer spring you run up front the worse the ride is going to be. I would run a good quality set of front springs not necessarily a HD. I bought all my parts from OFFROADDESIGN.com They offer kits now and parts are high quality!!! Good luck! Post some pics when your done!

Re: 402 bbc

I put a 6" Tuff Country on mine with 37" Swampers. I put in a 454BBC a while back, there was NO noticable difference between the BBC and the original SBC, as far as tire clearance...
