any info is welcome I found a 67 gmc with a v6 in it. How long were they used do they have good torque? How hard are thay to find parts for.

They were used from 1960 - 1974. (60 - 69 in pickups.) They are torque monsters, but are a low revving engine. I have a '67 351 V6 in my '69 3500 dump truck, and it is a brute. Most general tune up parts, starters, alternator, fuel pump, etc can still be bought at parts stores. Internal engine parts are a little tougher find, but just about everything for them comes up on ebay if you keep your eyes open. I am a fan of them. They look cool, pull like a mule, sound cool. If geared properly, they even do OK on the highway, but most of them come with low gears. I have a great running 401 Magnum out of '66 C-60 that I am dying to put in something!

A '67 could have either a 305 or a 351 in it. There are numbers stamped on the block ahead of the right cylinder head. The 351 in the pickups has 'Magnum' style big valve heads and a larger carburetor (still a Stromberg if no one has ditched it for a Holley).

Hi Wade,

There was a pickup in the salvage yard a couple of miles west of me that had a 351 V-6 in it. The guy crushed it when steel was so high last fall.... You are like me, a day late and a dollar short...

They do pull like a mule. I had one in my GMC with 4.56 gears. You could lug it down to 15mph in 4th gear and floor it, and it'd chug right off and SLOWLY pick up speed. I did put a Holley 500 2bbl on mine, which made a world of difference compared to the original Stromjunk. The motor was worn out, so I took it out and swapped a 350 in, which was a good idea IMO.
