what do you think? should i bite?
the guy wants 3k (CDN) for the whole package but is open to offers
http://saskatoon.kijiji.ca/c-cars-ve...AdIdZ106607075 im seriously thinking of doing this, would the 400 sbc and the trans bolt right into my 70 gmc (307 with a 3 on the tree) without moving the crossmember or have to buy different motor mounts and using existing driveshaft? |

Re: what do you think? should i bite?
is that a decent price? i was goin to go with a built 383 for that price, with no transmission or shifter.

Re: what do you think? should i bite?
Probly won't bolt straight in as far as the tranny is concerned if it's like mine. I dont know about your three speed...but my 4 speed has no cross member under the tailshaft which an auto tranny would require. 3k might be pretty reasonable depending on how fresh the motor is and what kinda heads and cam specs etc etc... I was selling a built 383 (approx 450HP) and TH350 for 3k and it only had 20,000km on it.... I'm from Regina.

Re: what do you think? should i bite?
even that 97 vortec motor would be sweet if you could get the harness and computer with it and have a nice fuel injected ride. Even with the 3 speed.

Re: what do you think? should i bite?
Any chevy tranny should bolt up to the 97...the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same as your 307 and all older sbc's. Even the newer 4.8/5.3/6.0's have the same bellhousing...just with those you need adapters to make the torque converters work.
Yes a 4 speed auto would bolt up. I believe the 97 would come with a 4L60E which is similar to a TH700R4...but i may be wrong.

Re: what do you think? should i bite?
Holy!! I wouldn't mind having that M22! $1200 is a little steep for me though.
Yes that will work with the correct bellhousing and clutch. I don't know much about the 3 speeds but i assume they have the same bellhousing as my 4 speed which SHOULD work with that muncie. Also it doesn't look like it has a tailshaft mount for a crossmember which means it might be a direct bolt in as far as attatching to the engine goes. Your driveshaft may be the wrong length though as well as you'll have to make a shifter hole in the floor. I also seem to recall that floor shifted trucks came with higher tranny humps. Not sure it it's for clearance reasons or not....

Re: what do you think? should i bite?
think mine has a 2 inch or so hump but i need to do some patching so if needed it can go under the knife, with the muncies though the first gear is pretty steap isn't it?? what does this mean for drivability??

First gear doesn't look so bad...it's only 2.20. You'd probly start in 1st all the time with that and not 2nd. A TH700R4 has a first gear of 3-something.

Re: what do you think? should i bite?
alright the guy got back to me about the 400 its been rebuilt stock heads (no machining just cleaned with stiffer springs) summit mild cam, hydraulic lifters, the crank has been ground, the cylinders honed, new rings on the pistons (which are stock) Weiand intake, brand new 750 holley, new water and fuel pumps, new starter motor and distributor, 23T bucket headers and mufflers all new. Comes complete with TH400 trans, professionally rebuilt with shift kit and B&M starshifter.
so mostly stock but everything has been professionally gone through the 750 CFM holley carb is brand new, the intake is a single plane. the guy wants 3,000 but there is negotiating room he has to sell do to a kidney operation and can't finish the project (1923 t-bucket) engine has been detailed chevy orange lotsa chrome bits. what kinda numbers did this engine put out back in the day? and what if you can tell me with the vague part description can i expect outta it now?? |

Re: what do you think? should i bite?
i geuss its not possible to hear it run?
3000 for a virtually stock motor/trans is a little steep i think, at least around here (ontario) if buddy has all the recipts or some way of proving that it was gone through, and not just prettied up, i might go for that one. that 97 vortec with a 4 speed muncie could be alot of fun though..
