Car header fitment issues? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm considering ordering some Chevelle/Camaro headers from Summit (probly be getting their house brand cheapos) for my C20 big block truck for the added ground clearance they provide over the standard truck headers.

Anyone hear of an clearance issues with doing this? I know this is a popular way to go, but I've not been able to find any comments about fitment/install issues. Do they clear the mounts, a/c, etc?

Any info is appreciated!

The 3/4 length car headers I`ve seen (can`t remember brand) usually needed the right side rame rail clearanced a bit.Not much/no biggy,just won`t bolt right up.

Car header usually hit the lower A-frames becouse they're not swept back like the truck headers.

If this is true, how then are the guys doin it? Maybe I'm better off going with the correct truck headers? (oh, how awful)

I just figured might as well gain a little clearance if possible.

Looking under the truck it appears that the crossmember will be pretty close, so the pipes will need to come down a couple inches pretty quickly after the collectors in order to clear. I figured that might be a problem.

not sure exactly what you're looking for, but i'm thinking the BB3 might fit your need

What I'm talking about is full length headers, not shorties. The truck ones hang down below the fram while the car ones nestle up next to the fram for more clearance. I guess I could go with shorties, but then I'm compromising on the reasonfor going to headers in the first place - performance/efficiency.

The Summit headers look decent and are only $90! Hard to beat that!

I have a set of Hedman's on my 72 C-20 big block. They fit great and I have no clearance issues. They are also full length, not the shorties
