To all you 68 guys with hood lettering!!!!!!

Im converting my 70 to a 68 front clip and I want the
" C H E V E R O L E T" letters across the hood but my hood is a repop from tri-pro with no holes. Could one of you 68 guys get me the measurements I need or know the best way to get them without scowering the yards for a lettered hood? Also if you dont mind I need the hole spacing for the fenders too. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I dont know why I did that usually Im pretty good with my spelling! I cant believe nobody else has had this dilema. Are you 67-68 guys not buying new hoods and just blasting the old ones Or not adding letters to ones without? Hmmmph. Oh well.

Heavy masking paper lined up with the front edge and taped down can be a good way to transfer hole location. Push lightly on the paper to find the center of the holes, then use a fine marker in the center. Transfer to new piece and mark with center punch thru the paper. Works for me !

Re: To all you 68 guys with hood lettering!!!!!!

Green Machine, Awesome idea.
Dub J, here ya go :
From the leading edge of the hood, the letters are 1 1/8th to the bottom of each letter. Looking at them, from the front left side, the C is 16 1/2". From the right bottom side, the middle of the T is 17".
Here are the betweens, measured with a caliper at the top of each letter:
C-H 2.57
H-E 2.57
E-V 2.47
V-R 2.47
R is in the center
R-O 2.63
O-L 2.70
L-E 2.45
E-T 2.57
Hope that helps, if not ,let me know.

Re: To all you 68 guys with hood lettering!!!!!!

68 Bowtie, so you measured 16 1/2" to the center of the "C" or to the left side of it like this ---->C . When you say at the "top of each letter" in the middle do you mean top center? And which direction did you measure from C towards the T or opposite, or does it even matter? Thanks man I appreciate the help. And sorry for being so meticulous about this man I just dont want to screw this up.

Top and extreme left or right.
And which direction did you measure from C towards the T or opposite, or does it even matter? From C to T (left to right).

No problem at all. Kinda confusing though, I agree.

Re: To all you 68 guys with hood lettering!!!!!!

Green Machine has the right idea. Find someone with a ‘68 hood with the letters already off of it and make a paper pattern. Make reference marks for the bottom and center, then you can transfer the pattern to your hood.
My Chevy hood is thrashed, so I’m replacing it with a nice, clean‘68 GMC hood. Just a few holes to fill ( a whole lot less than filling a Chevrolet hood ) and my hood will be shaved. All the best to you with your project!
