250/I6 3-speed fuel economy?
I have a '76 C10 long bed with the stock 250/I6 3-speed but my speedometer/odometer doesn't work (cable doesn't clear my floor shifter) so I haven't been able to see what kind of mpg I'm getting.
Anyone have or had a 250/I6 3-speed and know the average mpg? Thanks. Last edited by Tantrix; 02-18-2009 at 09:08 PM. |

Re: 250/I6 3-speed fuel economy?
I have a 250 4 speed in my 85 3/4 ton and love the thing it is great on fuel but I did a lot of playing with the carb and the dist. advance to get it to give good economy.

Re: 250/I6 3-speed fuel economy?
I haven't done any tweaking to the carb, and mine is the 3-speed manual. I've looked up tons of stuff on the internet but can't find anything on the fuel economy of the various engines/transmissions of the old C10 pickups.

Re: 250/I6 3-speed fuel economy?
1969 L6/30TT 4.11 half ton 17mpg. 15 at 70mph.
1983 l6/250/3OTT 3/4 ton 3.23 15mpg, 13 at 70mph, 19 at 45mph Expect 1mpg less with auto, 1mpg more with cruise. They really like to run 45-55mph, above that the wind resistance is too bad, and below that it's too annoying to drive. I don't see any reason my 250 (4.1) should get worse than my 4.3. So once I put the 700R4 or 2004R behind it, and add TBI, I'll be looking for 20+. Of course that will be right after my other 4 projects...
