Can I fit 275/55/17's up front?
Hey guys, I just picked up a set of brand new Escalade 17" chrome rims for next to nothing. They have 5.5" of backspacing and they are nearly 8" wide. I already know I'll need spacers to make them work, but I wondered if you guys think I'll have any issues running 275/60/17 (29" tall ) tires up front? The reason being is I can get a great price on all 4 and I know 275/60/17's will clear the rear with ease. Plu having the same size tires all the way around will allow tire rotations, etc.
I have Brothers 3" drop springs up front, but it looks like it only dropped it 2" (maybe because the LSx motor weighes less that a SBC?). Also, if it makes any difference I will be swapping to a '73-'87 front disc brake setup (with 6 lug rotors) prior to installing the rims/tires. Thanks guys!!

You should not have a problem I have 275/60/15 all the way around with a 3.5 in front drop. But they are only 28". If I where you though I would put a 255 or less on front. I will be putting a 235 on front of mine by the end of the week.

Why is that?

To me it just looks better on these trucks. The front track on these trucks look wider than the rear so when you put the wide tire in front it just does not look as good to me. But as I said I think it would work fine.

I had 275/50/17s with 2.5" drop spindles on my GMC without ever having problems.

Re: Can I fit 275/55/17's up front?
I have a 4.5" drop with 255/50/17s on the front...was going to put 275/55/17's on the front (what I have on the back), but it's too wide - the tires would rub on both inner and outer when taking corners if any body lean or bump. A 255 on a 8" rim with 4" bs is about as wide/far out as you wanna go.
If you go with 8" with 5" bs, you'll be okay on the outer fender, but definitely get running on the inside. A shorter (27-28") tire might be okay at 275...

The 265/60 is what I had on my mock-up 17" wheel if I remember right. It cleared at full lock plenty fine, even with out a spacer put on.
