Buddy Bucket question for the Gurus. - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I bought a set of Dodge buddy buckets off a member. My understanding is that the bottom cushion is the same as GM Buddy buckets (although I can't see any stampings on them) and the back cushion is different. How different is the back cushion? Is it a matter of cutting down the back foam? The foam is in really good shape and I'm trying to do this on a reasonable budget. I noticed the back cushion goes a couple of inches above the seat frame. On the GM version is it even with the top of the back seat frame? I also noticed there is distinctive side bolstering on the Dodge Buddy Buckets. Is it the same for the GM Buddies? Any insight would be helpful.

well, I have a set of dodge buddy buckets and they have GM22 on the bottom cushion. Mine don't seem to be that much different on the back than GM either. I don't have a GM set to compare but I bet if you took a set of new covers and held them up to yours then you could shape the foam to work. The mounting brackets are different though... I'm either gonna buy a chevy frame or have some brackets fabbed to work.

I think the only difference is the way the seat covers are sewn.

I currently have a set apart and could trace the back for you if you like...just to make sure it is the same profile. It is basically a piece of 3/8 plywood with some foam glued to it. Very simple design.

If you could just give me some dimensions I could at least have somewhere to start. Your 50th buddy buckets are actually the reason for this purchase. I am going to try and create a 50th Stepside and saw your seats and decided I must have a set. If your upholsterer still has the patterns for your seats I may just have them make me a set like yours. Could you PM me their contact info? If I can get my back seat cushion into the same shape as the GM version it should be a pretty easy install.

Shawn, Dimensions are 14.5" wide (at bottom...tapered...13" at the top) x 14.5" tall x 5.5" inch thick. The radius at the top corners is 3". The plywood inside is 3/8" with 1.5" foam on the back side and 4" foam on the front side.

I got mine from Rick's Custom Upholstery in Columbia, TN. Talk with Donna@(931) 388 - 3022 or email her at upholster2@gmail.com. Just mention the gold and white set of '68 Chevy truck buckets they did last year about this time and she will remember them. Tell her I said hello and will finish my truck and send her the pics I promised some day...LOL!

Shawn, Here are some pics of my '67 buddy seat. The dimensions I gave you are overall dimensions. You could subtract approximately 1/2" from each dimension to get the dimensions of the beads/piping due to the bulge/swell of the foam padding.
