Question How do I install shifter knob on column shifter lever?

I bought a new auto tranny column shifter lever and knob. I tried forcing the knob on but couldn't get it on all the way and had to pull it back off. I figured I'd put the lever in the freezer and the knob in hot water and with some anti-seize lube, attempt to put the two together. Anyone got any better solutions?

I think the normal process is to put the knob in hot water for a little bit and then push it on the shaft. I wouldn't use any chemicals on the shaft though.

You have to warm up the knob and force it on. Clamp the handle up in a vise and tap it on with a soft faced mallet

Beat it on with a rubber mallet. Worked for me.

Re: How do I install shifter knob on column shifter lever?

I ended up putting the lever in the freezer for a day and microwaving some hot water for the knob. I still had to pound the knob on but finally got it on all the way.
