kick down cable bracket

so i just rebuilt the engine in my 86 gmc last month, while doing so i changed out the carburetor from a two barrel to a q-jet, everything lined up fine except for the kick down cable. I did look on the net for a replacement but all i found were brackets for a holly carb or the lokar ones that use there cables. i would just mod mine but i dont have access to a welder. If any of you have some ideas, know of a part to correct this, or have pics of your setup the help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use the lokar cable and bracket and it should work just fine..

Judging by the pic, I'd say you have either a Turbo 350 or a Turbo 400, because the cable end doesn't look like a TV end from a 700r4. The best way to fix it without building something is to replace your throttle cable bracket with an aftermarket adjustable one. If you want cheap, most parts stores sell a chrome bracket by Spectre that allows adjustability where the throttle cable mounts to it and where the kickdown cable mounts to it. It's only attaching point is the rear carb stud, so it is somewhat flimsy, but it'll get that cable where it needs to be for about $20.

A far better option would be the throttle cable bracket from Edelbrock part #8036 (8030 if you want it in chrome). It has the same adjustability for the cables as the el-cheapo Spectre, but mounts securely to the back of the intake for a more ridged and secure mount. You'll pay a little more, but it's worth it IMO.

All of the brackets I mention are compatible with the factory cables you have, so you don't have to use special cables as with the expensive Lokar kits.
