Headliners Looking for info!

Hey guys I am wanting to do a headliner in my 72 Tahoe and want it up tight to the roof bows. I am not really wanting a suspended style but more of the new molded type. Do any of you have something like this or info on doing one?

Here are my thoughts to get the right shape. I am thinking of doing it in fiber glass and starting by coating the roof top in plastic or mold release. Then glass over that with a few thin layers of glass and mat. Then trim it down so it will fit up tight in the Tahoe. I have never done one like this but it sounds like I can make it work well or so I think.

Any thoughts or ideas?

What about using masonite? It will give you a nice bow and be solid. Glue the padded headliner fabric to it.

Re: Headliners Looking for info!

I saw something like you were describing in a newer mag..."8-lug" I think. The guy made a fiberglass mold and then airbrushed a really wicked skull theme on it. It was really cool. He took the original molded liner and made it from that.

I would think you would have to make it in a few pieces and have the seams at the original molded spots...? But, then again, you do have a shortened roof. A one piece would seem a bit hard to work with.
The original pieces are too flimsy to make a mold from.
I'm sure you'll wow us though!

You can go the easy way like I did. Fabric front to back.

That looks really nice but I am wanting more of a modern feel for the inside and maybe a drop down flat screen for my son

Its hard to tell how its afixed to the bows, so how did ya do it? I see the points that it appears attatched but cant tell how you did it so cleanly.

That sounds like a pretty doable idea to me. If it was a full sized burb I think that would be too much trouble.
