Is head from the 250 the same as 292?
Need a little help, the head on my 292 is cracked. All I can find at boneyards are 250's. Will the head from a 250 go on a 292?

I think the block is longer on a 292

just taller isn't it? I thought the 250 and 292 were pretty much the same, just a longer stroke for the 292 which meant they needed a taller block (actually, it's the same factory stroke as a 454...doesn't mean anything, just for interest's sake )

They are the same head. If you want to increase the comp ratio on a 292 (it is really low) use a 194 head. Same ports but smaller chambers.

True, the 250 head is the same as a 292. It will bolt right on. They did come with a real low comp. ratio and like someone said you might try and find one off the even smaller 6 clynlinder to get your comp up there, or put in some different pistojns

back in the mid 70s my dad raced stock cars. the class they ran was the 6 cylinder class. one time they build a 292. they decided to use a 194 head to get more compression. they shaved both the head and the block, and used flat top pistons. the engine had so much compression that the starter wouldn't turn it over. They hooked it up to the back of a truck and pulled it down the road to get it started. when they got it back in the shop, they pulled the head off and the head gasket was blown in 3 places.

So what does the comp. ratio become?
With a 194 head on a 292, what is the compression ratio- assuming no shaving or other mods?
