4-speed To Auto 1972 4x4 Swb
I HAVE A 1972 4X4 CUSTOM-10 SWB. I WANT TO CHANGE FROM THE 4-SPEED TO AN AUTOMATIC. CAN ANYONE OUT THERE TELL ME WHAT I NEED,TO DO THIS. WILL AN R4-700 TRANNY WORK OK? REAREND IS 3:73 350 SMALL BLOCK. I HAVE A STEERING COLUMN FROM A AUTO, JUST CURIOUS ON ALL THE OTHER GOODIES I NEED, OR PROBLEMS I MAY RUN INTO. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.

Well the easiest and cheapest way would be to find a T-350 / NP205 transfer case combination and just swap it out. Then locate the automatic transmission linkage to install in your truck. It is different than the 2X4 version, so it is a little harder to locate. But if you choose to keep your transfercase, you will be looking to by adapters for the tranny to transfer case, and also the spline shaft adapter whitch are both pretty expensive.
