Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
I decided on trying to make my truck into a rat rod for a while until later on when i can get some paint on it.
But would you consider it to be a rat? Any tips on what I could do to make it more of one would help. Im planning on getting some rallies or steel wheels pretty soon and should I paint them red or black or any other color that would look good Well here it is Before the white top With top Im wanting rims like this one |

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
i have a hard time calling any 67-72 a "rat rod".
Do i think black primer or matte black paint looks sweet on them? yes. Do i think those wheels on the last pic look sweet? hell yes. Do i think pin striping looks bad ass if done tastefully. ohhh yeah. but would i call it a rat rod? no. Now, slap a shop logo on the doors, and i'd call it a "shop truck". just my 3.5 cents... btw, what color do you plan to paint it when you do paint it? |

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
Cover the seat with a mexican blanket and if you go with red wheels, paint the dash red with some pinstripping, paint the rest of the interior flat black.

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
I would suggest looking to the master for the boundaries of the motif. Check out the rats hole for some of Big Daddy,s work. Skulls, pin striping and hill billy crash helmets. Moonies web site might help too. You might be pushing the rat envelope a little with a truck from late 60s but the early 60s was there!

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
I dont consider your truck a rat rod. First off, pick a "vibrant" color. Most rat rods use red. If I were you I'd use a bright green, blue, orange, any bright "vibrant" color. You should also drop the truck some more, level it off at least to make it look more "ratty". JMO

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
Your truck isnt a piece of crap, so its not a rat. And a 67-72 truck isnt a rod...so no, its not a rat rod. Just a neat old truck.

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
I agree with everyone else you cant really call a 67-72 chevy a rat rod but that cant stop you from trying. I think you need to drop that and get some rally wheels and some white walls then you are getting close to looking like a rat rod. Like the saying goes imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! Here is a pic of my C20 sitting on bags in the rear soon to be bagged in the front

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
i should clarify that i like the look you're going for a lot. I debated a lot about painting my '69 Hot Rod Flatz Hugger Orange. Kinda wish i had in hind-sight.

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
I'm agree wth most everybody else that "Rat Rod" probably isn't the correct term, but it has kinda become the common name for the look you are going for. Your current wheels are killing the look for me. The steelies would look so much better IMO.

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
well if I would have just gone with a good set of bags and converting it to a a trailing arm setup on the first go around it would be fairly cheap. The most expensive part of setting up air bags is the tank valves compressor. All said with a cheap airlift leveling compressor for the rear im at about $450 but I dont recommend the leveling compressors they are way to slow and dont really give you good control over your bags.

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
I believe that because of the age it doesn't qualify to be a "RatRod"...On the other hand, I don't think that should discourage your vision. 67-72 trucks look great no matter what you do to one...Don't forget the louvers. Everywhere.

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
Looks like a sweet truck to me, but no rat rod.
I think ebay has totally blown what a rat rod is way out of proportion. It seems any person can slap some primer on any vehicle and that qualifies it as a rat rod on ebay Same with patina trucks

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
IMO no, I don't think anything newer that '58 can be a hot rod or a rat rod. You still have a cool truck, I just wouldn't call it that. Your plans sound good though.

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
The term "Rat Rod" is way overused.Rat rod was never a style per se'.It was a project in progress.Ratty looking because the owner didn't have $$ for body or paint or because he was still trying to improve performance.I have never met an "old Time rodder" who thought a car was actually finished without paint and interior. The more modern version is probably a style based on the nostalgia from that era.
I actually have some evidence to back that up thanks to the media.Just like nostalgia, things may evolve in the heads of those involved.Look thru one of the "rat Rod" mags."Old School Rods",or the like. There's no way that some of the car designs they do were ever concieved in the 50'-60's.Sure the guys wear DA haircuts and jeans with white T-shirts but just by the number of Tattoo's you can tell the era. Also I know I have never met a female from that era that had the number of tattoo's these girls wear nor the (insert your own descriptive term here) to wear some of those clothes in public, especially the liengere' Just my take on this.

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
this is probably the next biggest battle i hear next to which is better ford or chevy. i hear so many over use the word rat rod. drives me crazy they think that just cause it has patina on it makes it a rat rod. the definition states function over form. witht hat definaition you could techniclly call a striped down new car a rat rod since it only has the bare essensials. no creature comforts but would anyopne ever consider a 90s model anything a rat rod no. but i say call it whatever you want. but i dont htink our trucks are in that category. sorry for the tangent just such a touchy subject since most of thevehicles are pre60 anyway
as far as the pinstriping goes take a shot at it but it does take a steady hand and lots of practice ive been doing it since i was 10 and still practice to this day takes a lot of it |

Re: Would you consider my truck a rat rod?
Labels suck! Call it what you want, but don't get rid of that black satin paint!
The truck looks sweet as is, but I am totally subscribed to slamming it, adding a litte ol' school pinstriping and driving it. Enjoy it, that is a very nice truck IMO! |
