Looks great!! What year truck did your center caps come from? I have a set from a 2002 Chevy truck and they wont rest on the wheels like they are supposed to. The end of the axle on the Dana 60 sticks out too far. Yours look like deeper center caps than mine. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Thanks Wes. The original 16.5s tires were like rocks so I bought 16" tire wheel combo take offs from a late model burb($200). Put about 2000 miles on the truck before doing the resto. I added an inch to the rear rim and used dually caps to cover the dana. Hard to tell from the photo, but the rear cap sets flush with the rim like the front.

Hmmmm, Thanks for the information.. I will be calling my GM dealer to get a set for duelies then. The caps for the stock aluminum wheels for the 3/4 ton are not deep enough... I can't wait to see your truck completed... WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

ftw80 - I have a similar issue with center caps on the rear of my 72 C20 (I'm actually using Dodge center caps on the rear now). I'm running 16" wheels from a mid-90's 2500, and the center caps won't work on the rear.
What do you mean by "...I added an inch to the rear rim..."? Does this mean the wheel is extended out from the drum by an extra inch? Thanks,

Since 8lug steel rims are only available in 7"width, I had a 1" band welded to make a deeper dish rim. If you look behind the valve stem you can see the weld and band. Any stock car wheel company should be able to do it. In Hawaii I had to pay $125 per wheel to have this done. Pete Paulson http://www.petepaulsen.com/ gave me a quote $65 per wheel but shipping would have been another $60. I wanted to go deeper, but my guy only had 1"band in stock. I may eventually use these on the front and get wider for the rears.

Did ythey ever fix your paint?
I have a question for you on lowering your truck...I had spoken to another longhorn owner in hawaii who lowered his, and when he got it inspected, they told him he had to return to stock height. He had not known about teh lowering laws and did a C-notch to the frame. This rendered the truck unfit for public roads as it was explained to him. Some other BS laws he learned (the expensive way) not aloud to lower a pick up at all. Not alout to run 17 inch or larget rims (onless equipped when new) need a 15 inch or larger steering wheel. My question is, you found away around these problems, you ignoring them, or did they reverse all this stupid crap? |

Hawaii has a thing call recon and anything modified is supposed to go there. They are very picky. The trick is to skip recon and find a safety inspector w/out recon.

LONGHORNS--COOL!
There is a regular "Longhorn Cult" on here. You make me really want to finish my 72 BB Cheyenne Super, but I guess I am going to sell it. One of the board members wants it and will do a nice job of restoring it. It is going to be a fantastic truck when done!
