Soft top on E-Bay

Came across this on E-Bay. Item # 290299894767. NOS Kayline top. Makes me wish I would have bought an extra when I got mine a few years ago.

Not too sure if the statement about Kayline being the original manufacturer of soft tops for Blazers or them being Factory is true, but still a rare find.

Is a grand in line for what this is worth? What did they cost back when you could buy one new?

for me I think its out of line. you can go to a baot shop and have one made for that kinda cheez. and you wont have to drill in to your truck

I paid right around $700 for my STC Fastrac. I think at grand is a good deal. Everyone on the board who has gone to boat shops has come back with estimates around $3,000.

By the way, all the tops require you to drill into your truck. The Kayline snap tops have rails that run along the top of the bed sides with the snaps in them. You will have to drill holes in the header and in the tailgate, but I had to do that with my Fastrac too.

When i did the plans for mind I made a bolt in panel for the header . as for the tailgate I ll do mind the way a jeep does. that way I dont have to drill into it..

It always seemed like there was a way around it, but all the production tops I've seen (Kayline, Bestop, STC) require a series of holes drilled into the header and tailgate. The Kayline and STC also require at least one hole drilled in the top of the B pillar for the frame over the doors. Again, it seems like they could have put a mounting point into the bracket that bolts to the bed rails.

I would think the hardware is the expensive part. You would basically have to re-engineer the pivot points so the top will fold down behind the rear seat, bend the tubes and create all the brackets. I'm not an engineer, so this task seems overwhelming to me. I'm sure if you can draw up accurate plans, you could probably sell them for others to get tops made (since it appears actually making the tops isn't profitable.)

ill see if i have pics of mine. I used angle aluminum. I bent the bows out of conduit for test fit. I made hinges for the arches of ther doors so it would seal somwhat. If you have sun visers then you will have a bolt right at the edge of the door and apiller.The only problem I had was with the forward bow hitting my roll bar.I used my set ua as a bimminy

i may do that. My jeep used a square tube that locked into notches on the sides of the tailgate. the top snapped onto that. I dont like drilling into the truck. I will be making my soft top as soon as I replace the lower a pillers and front cab mount. I robbed the hydrolic set up from a mustang in hopes to use it to make an automatic top. however again the roll bar is in the way unless I can make somthing like an extended cab soft top.

I put a tail gate protector on mine and didnt drill any holes in my gate.
