got her home

So I got the 65 home yesterday, took some pics for you guys.

You can see in this one the headlight is busted. The tread (went down to the steel cord) on the passenger tire came completely off while it was being towed, snapped up, and shattered the headlight. I'm glad I didn't listen to my buddy and "jus drive it man" lol.

As soon as the tow truck driver was pulling out of the drive, i took the tow mirrors off and added an old peep mirror, then replaced the headlight with one i had on hand.

I sold the rear wheels from my 63 that i had but i still had the fronts and the tires are in better shape so i threw those on real quick as well. I don't intend to keep them on but it'll work as a temp fix (it looks good raked but the wheels are way to small, they look lost with all that head room).

I also figured out what all that horrible drivetrain noise was that i thought was a bad transmission. The previous owner seemed to think that a wire coat hanger would be perfect for securing the exhaust system to the driver side trailing arm so that the muffler could rest snuggly on the driveshaft....

I plan to do the brakes first (after i fix the muffler...with my cutting torch lol); i'll have some questions for you soon.

Re: got her home

thanks for the compliments guys. i already ordered this:

http://www.performanceonline.com/sto...at=1074&page=1

I'm thinking about using these wheels:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

or these:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Will they work with disc brakes? Will they fit overall? I don't know anything about wheels yet- offset, backspacing, how the width translates to actual tire size. Am I right in thinking 15x8's in the front and 15x10's in the back or should i use 15x8's all around? 15x7's?

Re: got her home

Both of those wheels will work with disc brakes, but I don't know if the one with 4.75 back spacing will work on your truck. Another member recently got some wheels with 4.250 or 4.50 backspacing and had interference issues. I know that the ones with 3.75 will fit. You should be fine with 15 x 10's in the back, but you might need to message the wheel opening inner lip a little, depending on tire size and how low you go. Keep me in mind when you need your power steering and power brake conversion parts.

Not really sure. I have a ton of parts from my other truck including a 10" bridge kit and bags, etc all still new in the box. I really bought it to have something else to drive while i wrench on my vette. So for now, fresh brakes, wheels, tires, pressure wash and throw some fresh gaskets on the motor, maybe hei distributor since i have one already, and probably leave the one barrel on it for gas mileage. After i get the suspension rebuilt on my vette i'll dig into the whole air ride set-up. Getting it to layout and get a logo on the side to the nature of "parts hauler" or something. lol. That's all i'm thinking right now. A little spendy but not super high dollar like some of the other trucks i've seen. I think i'm even going to leave the huge redneck rear bumper and front battering ram too lol.
