Where can I safely put floor jack???
I have a new 3 ton shop floor jack. Where on the front of the truck can I safely lift the truck without bending anything? Where does GM recommend locating the floor jack?
I am going to attempt to change my oil pan, and tranny pan, to some aluminum high capacity units

Doesn't anyone know where to position a floor jack under the front of the truck to lift it, without bending? Please let me know where I should position the jack.

if your not doing anything with the front supension i would jack up under the lower control arm, just position the cup on the jack under the spring cup on the control arm. you can lift by the frame rail behind the front tires or by the crossmember as well.

I work for an aoutomotive shop, and "" The Book"says never to lift under any of the front suspension. Yer supposed 2 always use a franerail. If u lift on the front susp., it sometimes may compress everytihng just a lttile 2 much/ just my 2 cents

i lift em by the cotrol arms everyday, all day. all your doing is putting the weight of the truck on the control arm which is exactly whats happening when its on the ground. it won't compress it anyfurther than its compressed sitting on the ground with no jack. i agree though, "officaily" the frame is the correct by the book lift point

You can lift by anything under there except the floor pans, cab mounts, oil pan, or tranny pan.
I guess the drive shaft wouldn't be a good place either. |

Front I lift with the crossmember. Man, I love big V8 Chevies...I have yet to see one that didn't have a nice big crossmember there that makes jacking up easy. My girlfriend's Opel, dad's Mercedes, and sister's Saturn are all lacking in that area...so to jack up the front, I've got to go side to side...
In the rear, I lift right from the bottom of the pumpkin and put the jackstands on the axle tubes.

I usually just throw the jack under either pumpkin and lift away......or under the front crossmember on the 2wd........DON'T FORGET THE JACKSTANDS!!!!!............I wouldn't trust a hydraulic jack as far as I could throw it while I'm laying under a vehicle, I've seen too many come down.
